Dungey... Dead arm or....

imo some of his floaters are on purpose. he's playing back yard football where he just lofts it up, trying to put touch on the ball and expecting the receiver to go make a play. when he floated the interception down the middle, to my eyes he thought it would be an easy toss over the defense and he misjudged it. he's playing soft toss out there. he'll learn and adjust.

I also think he's fatigued and has a tired arm. It's the same story for the OLine. Another year of all the reps and it'll become second nature.

Agreed, the pace is overwhelming to them right now and I also think they need to play faster...

i wonder if guys like petty and the fat pirate* (trademarked by cusian) are like big fat pitchers whose arms never get tired. seth russell is big too.

nick florence is on the small side and he was pretty bad for 2 years.

griffin is a track star, hard to compare

terrel hunt got me thinking about fatigue - in 2013, he was even worse at passing after a big run.

we can still have dungey run the way nassib did in 2012. don't do anything nuts, just take 6 free yards and get down

By fat pirate I assume you mean Matt Johnson, BGs quarterback last year. He was also a 5th year senior so he had that much more natural physical maturity and 5 years of college S&C; and his second year in the system.

Went and looked at Johnson's rushing totals. 113 carries in 14 games. Dungey is on pace for 163 carries over 13 games.

By the way, how do your stats bear out for Babers second year at BG.

2nd year was the lego movie (everything is awesome)

I think you're comparing Montana to other NFL arms, and yes, his was comparably weak. I don't think Dungey's is as strong as Montana's or anyone else you listed.

To fair to Montana, he still looked decent as an old man in KC with less talent around him.

I thought Montana was overrated until he went to KC. That sealed it for me that he was legit.

I didn't think he had a strong arm last year either. He wasn't a guy that could make the NFL throws, but that is fine because that isn't what we need him to do. I also think that he doesn't try to zip it in there. Most of the time he is trying to place the ball. So he adds accuracy and losses some steam.

Another "issue" is that he is more of a play maker than a thrower. He seems more comfortable moving around and making plays than he is sitting in the pocket. If you are on the move you will lose some strength as opposed to sitting there and stepping into a throw.

His 1st INT was a bad decision and slightly under thrown ball. His 2nd INT was an arm issue as he couldn't get it out there with anything on it. His 3rd INT (called back) was a bad decision.

I don't think is arm is or will be an issue. His reads and his trust of his OL are the things that we have to worry about right now. In time those won't be an issue. He has 3 games in this system so it is expected that he isn't there yet. The quicker he learns the quicker we can start getting Ws.

His biggest problem is his mechanics. Eric has plenty of arms for this level. His touchdown throw to Irvine was a strike. At times, Eric tends to throw off of his back foot , which is the real problem. He needs to learn to step up in the pocket and deliver it.

He will never have the biggest arm, but as long as his mechanics are efficient he will be just fine.

I agree that Dungey's arm is average at best but it's definitely stronger than Mahoney. That was altogether clear from last year.

Mahoney's arm was clearly stronger: he could throw it farther and zip it with more force. He lacked Dungey's touch and accuracy.

Mentioned it this summer... Got ripped.

Kid doesn't have a strong arm to throw slants yet (Nassib sometimes fired them too hard) but yeah.

We are still lucky he isn't at Oregon.

his biggest issue is a clean pocket. expecting to get hit messes with your footwork. He is fine on the quick throws where he nows where he wants to go.. its the ones he is trying to go threw progressions or wait to see someone get open that he lacks some of the zip. trust in the play takes a while to develop. this isnt the pros where QBs routinely throw into coverage and expect the WR to make the play.
