I think the board can get overly critical with players at times, and that’s what we as fans tend to do.

That being said, it’s been really hard for me to figure out what player ED reminds me of. By all accounts, he probably shouldn’t be as successful as he has been at this level.

He doesn’t see the field extraordinary well, he doesn’t have the best arm in the world, and he isn't the most accurate. I wouldn’t say he’s the fastest or shiftiest kid in the world either.

That being said, I’m starting to draw some Tebow / Dungey comparisons here. In no way is he going to be a Heisman/National championship winnner (wouldn’t that be nice), but the kid just has it at his level.

I cannot for the life of me remember someone that wants to win as bad as he does in recent Syracuse history. He has it, and I’m glad he is in Orange. It’s clear the team would fight for the kid. I think we go as he goes.

I've already looked into ordering Dungey 44 for Heisman shirts and nobody can dissuade me!

Who knows - he could have a Flutie type year next year and get on the Heisman map. He's certainly on the national radar now. I even heard Finebaum compliment him yesterday. (I've never heard Finebaum say ANYTHING other then negative stuff about Syracuse.)

Nah, there's no comparison - Dungey can actually complete a forward pass. ;)

But seriously, that comp had run thru my mind too.
More from the leadership/competitiveness/gives it all/willful disregard for personal well-being parts of it.

Wonder what his 40 time is. I bet his time for yards 10-40 (if that were a thing) are near elite.

He reminds me of the “current” version of Alex Smith. Dungey is more of a risk taker and better athlete and Smith might have a slightly stronger arm but both are very good. Have full trust of teammates and staff and encompass the literal meaning of a “captain.”

He's G-Mac in cleats.

He actually reminds me a lot of Bradlee Van Pelt who starred at Colorado St. in the early 2000s & spent a couple years as an NFL backup. Used to love staying up for those late Friday/Saturday 10pm MWC games because he was just so fun to watch. Like Dungey, he had his limitations but often got by on pure will & competitiveness. Better passer than ED but not as athletic. He was fiery & often let his emotions spill over...you really just never knew what he was going to do next.

His crowning moment vs rival Colorado after they took multiple cheap shots at him:

That's fantastic! Didn't look like there was even a flag thrown. In today's ACC there would be a flag thrown even before the play just in case someone thought about doing something like that.

Van Pelt was a wild dude. Raging long hair & rocked a dirty 'stache back before it was ironic like with millennials today. Used to talk a ton of trash but almost always backed it up.
