Dungey vs. Tebow

I say we set up The Octagon in NBT Stadium and let them settle the dispute once and for all :)
Sorry, man. I still have to take Tebow. While Dungey played on a broken foot, Tebow played on a broken leg. Ran it in for a 20 yard TD, no less. Check the X-ray. Granted, neither would tap out, til they died. It would be a celebrity death match.

There are plenty of NFL QB's who never threw to an NFL WR in college. Too many to count. If the NFL thinks you're good enough, you'll get a shot.
We were talking Tebow.

We were talking Tebow.
Right. My point is, that tebow could have had Dungey's supporting cast, and still likely gets drafted. Because he's better.

I don’t know what that means.
It means that when Eric got knocked out, he was usually on the shelf. When Tebow Christ got knocked out, he arose, and played the next week.
I was illustrating his toughness. Like I said earlier...NFL GM's are not investing money in a QB who missed nearly a full season of football unless he's got something special. Tebow proved much more durable, and his health was not a red flag like it likely was with Eric.

I was not debating whether or not Tebow is better. The OP was about supporting cast and hiebut affects how players are viewed.

And I’ll go one further. Give Dungey Tebow’s cast, and Dungey probably gets drafted. That’s what we were discussing.

That’s an impossible argument to make. Who is tougher! I got thrown 60 feet from a motorcycle and hit the pavement. I got up and walked away. Somebody else gets killed. See the difference? Too many variables.

If one of the greatest players to ever play college football, had Dungeys cast? He'd still be one of the greatest players ever.

The reality, is if Dungey had been on that roster, he may have never seen the field, just like Cam Newton.(still a huge Dungey fan)

I didn't make an argument that I felt either was tougher. My argument had to do with how NFL GM's view Dungey at the next level compared to Tebow. Of course they will see a guy who has missed nearly a full season in 4 years as a major risk. They won't see that in Tebow because all he put on tape is winning, and missing 1 start in 4 years.

I agree with you there.

Tebow threw 15 interceptions in 53 games. Dungey, 30 in 39. Tebow, less than a 30% chance of throwing a pic, per game, Dungey, more than 75%. I can't blame nearly triple the ints entirely on the supporting cast. Yes, Dungey had 30% more attempts, but the most accurate passer in college history(at that point) would still be more accurate with switching casts.

What about having multiple different OC's and coaches and offensive systems? Quite often an int is on the receiver who didn't run the right play.

Yeah, look, we need to be honest here.

As college QBs go, Tebow was legendary.

Dungey was legendary to us, but that's where it ends.
Anyone can be legendary with the teams he had around him. Same garbage with all those USC qbs who were a joke besides Palmer.

why are you guys doing this
I'd say, because Dungey and Tebow played with the same kind of heart. I think most would agree.

After that, I think it's unfair to compare most college QBs to Tebow.(regardless of supporting cast). Dungey was a great Syracuse QB.

It’s funny, this thread made me think about the tape I’ve seen of Joe Montana in college. He’s running for his life on so many plays but most of his line went on to play in the NFL. Montana himself was a third stringer even as a junior. Took a career ending injury to the first string QB for him to see the field.

Talent evaluation is tough.

Yes - surprised so many posters underrate the impact of the supporting cast. Dungey would have won big in place of Tebow - more? less? who knows? And he most assuredly would have been much less injured.

I haven't really seen the central issue addressed: How much of the difference between Tebow's achievements and Dungeys are attributable to the players around him?

What would Tebow's record look like if he'd been the QB of the 2015-18 Syracuse teams? Would Dungey have been been able to accomplish something similar to what Tebow did if he had quarterbacked the 2006-2009 Florida teams? Would we have been significantly better? Would they have significantly worse?

Like I said it’s not fair to compare players unless all things are equal yes Tebow has talent around him but he also was going up against SEC defense etc . Professional scouts while not always right obviously all agreed ED while he earned respect here didn’t earn there’s . Kid gonna be successful and is a legend here not bad not bad at all

And Dungey competed against Clemson and their three first-round draft picks on the D-line. For every declarative statement, there's a counter. Tebow had Urban Meyer - who won National Championships at Florida and Ohio State. Tebow played with 5, first-team All-Americans, and at least 11 NFL draft picks. It's perhaps the ultimate team game, so comparisons are dubious at best.
