The one that Shafer has been pointing to is travel budget. When you've got those kids signed, you don't have to keep traveling to visit them to keep them committed, so you can allocate that money elsewhere. Not to mention not having to assign coaches to those recruits. It basically frees up resources for unsigned recruits.
That's the big question mark. Of course, recruits don't HAVE to sign early. But for those who are 100% sure and want the process to end, it does it a little quicker, I guess? Thanks, jekelish. I get why this is advantageous for the schools.
I'm wondering how it helps the recruits?

It's also helpful for early enrollees, who can only sign an agreement of financial aid and are already at the college for a full month before they sign a LOI.
I agree. That's also why I'm not 100% behind the early signing period. If it had been in place last year, we probably wouldn't have Jake Pickard, for instance.Gotcha, that's kind of what I figured. I suppose it's nice for kids to get schools off their backs when their solidly committed in December. I do worry that some kid's who legitimately think they're committed to a school in December might have a reason to change their mind by February. But I suppose that's the argument for not signing early, if there's even a tiny shred of doubt.
I just don't want to hear that this would be a big win for the "student athletes". It would be a win for schools, no doubt. The recruits... eh.
I just want for everyone to recognize the fact that I used five straight words that start with A in a sentence, and it made complete sense. Alliteration is my b*tch. It's also helpful for early enrollees, who can only sign an agreement of financial aid and are already at the college for a full month before they sign a LOI.

It would also allow the kids to have uninterrupted study time for semester finals and to enjoy the holidays without being accosted by recruiters. The one that Shafer has been pointing to is travel budget.
