Ed Cooley at Georgetown Water Bottle Incident

We agree on much more than we disagree on. Not sure how I was perceived as insulting, but if you took it as such I sincerely apologize.. My only point of contention is that external candidates were absolutely considered and Wildhack relied heavily on his network before making a decision - a decision that was made well before the loss to Wake Forest in 2023. Whether that is considered a "national search" is open to interpretation, I suppose, but just because there were not reports of potential candidates flying into town might not be the most important factor.

Peace.
We probably do agree on more than we disagree. You’re already wavering from your initial position, though. A national search isn’t open to interpretation. We know what that means and that’s not what happened. Sounds like we’ll have to agree to disagree on that one.

Personally, I would rather the university own it and move on.

What’s interesting is that a number of posters were upset Cooley wasn’t named coach here , there were a number of threads, posts about it. Cooley went to Georgetown and is 36-43 while Autry is 43-35 over the same time period. There are no guarantees, you just never know. Arguing over conjecture is pretty useless, it’s tough enough to figure out reality. 😀

I never understood why anyone would have wanted him here. He's had a few good years here and there surrounded by a lot of not so good years .

I didn’t see him here either but again it was just my opinion. In addition, the circumstances how he left Providence (not the leaving but how he did it) made me think I wouldn’t want him here. Kim English, his successor at Providence is 40-40, a slightly better record than Cooley at Georgetown who reportedly had one of the largest NIL budgets. We along with others, were outbid for their pg Mack and center Thomas Sorber by the Hoyas. As I said, you just never know, there are no guarantees, Cooley was supposed to make a huge impact there but it hasn’t happened yet. He is earning over 3 x Red Autry is too.

Actually, we still outdraw Georgetown hoops at least 2 to 1 and that includes, if you like, just the numbers from this month.

Have to find some positive where you can.

Far from it. But the narrative is that there was no “national search”, no candidates “outside the family” and a succession plan based on the cheap and easy.
Couldn’t be farther from the truth.
I am on the fence with Autry. Not convinced he is the long term answer but acknowledge that nothing will be determined until March and am rational enough to watch how the season unfolds, cheer and support the team and staff every step of the way, and if expectations aren’t met be prepared to move on. Honestly this is the first year he has a roster even close to being willing and capable to play the style of ball that he wants to implement.
Give me a break. If there was a national search and they thought Red was the best candidate and didn’t get him on the cheap, the decision makers on the Hill are even dumber than I thought.

Talk to people who know how the succession plan was derived and how many coaches, agents, and media members were consulted over a period of over two years, then sit down with John Wildhack and have him describe what went into the effort. Then come back and apologize. If by a “national search” you mean a parade of candidates posting on twitter and flight aware sightings being prevalent, you are absolutely correct. If you mean full consideration of internal and external candidates, less so.
I’m not going to change your Ming but know there are shades of gray to every on line narrative

I won’t be apologizing because it’s BS.

Stop getting your information from the very people responsible for the atrocious hiring of Red. Of course they are going to deflect and act like due diligence was done to try and justify their decision. Do you expect them to come out and say they made an awful decision.

Ok. Happy Holidays.

theres a cautionary tale here - but not about red and cooley - about what happens when a storied program lets things go ...georgetown is in even worse than SU is...used to be ncaabb royalty and now looking like it wont happen again...

I have one question for the both of you, do birds even need pants?

john thompson jr. built a culture at georgetown that no other coach there has been able to duplicate. they were bad a$$ disrespected black folks who were out to teach the BB elites a hard lesson. and it sold.

Obviously there wasn’t a national search. Why would the board and athletic department want anyone to think otherwise? It makes them look inept if they searched far and wide and landed on Autry.

Are they going to say they conducted a national search after they hire McNamara? Will anyone believe them?

Ground hog day again and again.
