Watching Vtech @ Minn tonight and a Vtech player fell off the side of the court and was injured. How many schools have these drop off courts? Purdue I know has one, others? Wonder why the NCAA doesn't restrict these courts. Always though they were dangerous and tonight confirmed it.

I hate that I saw your title "Elevated courts" and immediately thought we had late breaking scandalous news.

Homecourt advantage. Plain and simple. Other teams feel a little bit out of place and uncomfortable.

If I ran I team I'd make the homecourt be on a 10% angle. My team who plays there everyday will be fine, other teams won't be able to figure anything out. I don't see that as being any different from elevated courts as a case of unfair advantage.

Same with rediculous paint jobs like Oregon. NCAA needs to restrict both for the sake of the game.

I don't think Purdue has one. Vandy has a weird court, though.

Back in the day, Manley had an elevated court. Combined with the rabid crowd being on top of the court and the cloud of dust in the air, made it an intimidating place to play. I don't recall an injury there due to the elevated court.

Purdue does have one. Vandy has the benches on the baseline, rather than side court.

Boeheim fell off the one at Purdue and sprained his ankle, I think.

Purdue definitely has one. The benches sit lower than the court.

I hate that the final four had these type of courts a couple of years back (might have been last year as well). Eventually someone is going to get seriously hurt and these arenas will be forced to make a change.

Purdue has one, I think they reconfigured the court a couple years ago.

Vandy has one, the benches are at court level, but the press and scorers table are not

The Final fours will have them probably every time from this point forward. I doubt New Orleans will do it this year, but the rest of the football domes seem locked into them at this point.

Everybody who wants the Dome to put an elevated court at the 50 yard line should read this thread.

Kind of like the dead spots on the floor at the old Boston Garden

I'd have a hole in the middle of the court with a live gator.

like Patric Young?

I was thinking more like this:

As you say, back in the day, there were many colleges with raised courts because they used the field house for a basketball arena. Dirt floors in many of them made it necessary to get the court elevated and clear of dust and dirt.

I'm sure it's more for sight lines than to create a home court advantage. Sitting in one of the front rows, but behind press row, is infuriating.
