Elijah Moore transferring to Utah

more chances? He was a starter for more than a month and did nothing

He might have started for a month, but he only played more than 20 minutes 6 times all season.
He played 15 minutes or less 16 times.

He only had 4 games all year where he made half his shots in a game.
So it's no surprise he spent a lot of time on the bench, especially with his terrible defense.

But he didn't get a ton of run compared to some other guys in our backcourt who were maybe less talented. More consistent time, and he might have played better. How many games did he get pulled 10 minutes into the game and never return?

If JJ could have been adequate at point Moore could have been playing at the 2 and Carlos could have gotten 10-15 minutes a game and we would have been a much better team.

"impressive pickup," lol. 24 vs. Tennessee (a lot of it in garbage time when the game was hopelessly over) then he went scoreless for like 2 months when he was given a starting assignment during the heat of the ACC season and was abused on defense.
You sound like Moore hurt you on a personal level.

The fun of message board talent evaluations

As a high school recruit - this guy is underrated, rating services are anti Syracuse, love the class we have coming in

When they transfer out - this guy was never any good, belongs at a lower level school, we have better recruits coming in

And the cycle continues

Choppa is a kid this fanbase would have loved 30 years ago when coaches had time to bring players along in a system. He had the unfortunate timing of being here with our worst team ever and no system to speak of. On top of that, he wasn’t ready to compete at this level against grown men. I hope he does well at Utah and focuses on improving his defense.

He was a 4 star and considered a better shooter than Anthony. Nobody said he was underrated. A 4 star kid is typically top 50-75. That's a quality player, like a CJ Fair or a Malachi Richardson.

Not even that long ago. Remember when we waited for Demetris Nichols, Kris Joseph and Andy Rautins struggle terribly as freshman only to improve as they aged out?

There’s a decent chance we never see that anymore. Players don’t have patience to wait and fans don’t have the patience to wait for them to improve.

I liked Elijah coming in, and I still like him. I think he works hard and he is going to be a good player. The one thing that stood out from the season was when he got a steal and took off the other way and he was SLOW AF. It was shocking, because I thought he was at worst a decent athlete. That moment was glaring. I think he is a decent athlete, but he is not an explosive athlete. He is a hard worker and a good shooter, but I can't unsee that moment when he was as slow as molasses.

So far he’s looking like an overrated recruit to me. He’s got time to change the narrative soon we’ll see how it plays out. Utah is such a random spot for him to land. They have been in the college basketball wilderness a lot longer than us.

I still like him as a prospect. He is a legit 4 star recruit. He is limited athletically but he is a talented player, with proper leadership, he will be a really good player.

Utah cool he can have multiple wives!

I agree. Not every 4 or 5 star is going to light the world on fire as a freshman. Most are ranked highly based on potential and need to put in the work, and continue to develop. Kiyan, Sadiq and Womack all have potential but are coming in with major weaknesses. They and the fan base will need to be patient, and the coaching staff have a lot of work to do. Let’s hope that all 3 will persevere through ups and downs and stick with our program.

Those of us who have been around for some time are lucky to have seen players grow and develop for 4 years and to feel a kinship with them. Sadly, this will rarely ever happen again.

The devastation we felt when a player or two transferred seems laughable today as we now expect an entire roster makeover each year.

Moore was pretty bad on defense. But then again, so was pretty much everybody last year.
Moore Bell Lampkin and JJ were terrible on defense so l understand were Red is going in the portal player wise....can't count on the freshman for improvement on defense

With the HS kids they're recruiting them in many cases since 8th grade and sign as juniors and fans are waiting for two years for them to step on the court. He showed what his upside could be. Didn't seem like the coaches developed him at all as the season wore on. ...and now he's on some random school he never once considered. It all seems like a giant waste of time and resources.

Everyone agrees he's talented and will be successful eventfully. I guess that'll be at Utah or his 3rd or 4th stop. Would've been easier if it were at SU.

The list of players who struggled as freshmen and had good careers after is quite long. Moore had more success than a lot of players that ended up fan favorites here.
