Back in the 70's the Empire State Games were huge. Syracuse was lucky to host them for a number of years. While I never participated in them directly, I supported them by attending many events. Several times I saw Olympians up close and personnel. One of the great offshoots of the games were improved athletic facilities.
Years later when I turned 50 I participated in many events at the Senior Olympics. Through athletics you meet and compete with a wide range of different people from all over the world.
It's too bad that our country has so mismanaged itself that events like this are no longer affordable.
