The article includes the following comment:

Cockerton said there was no trepidation about returning to England because of that situation in 2010.

"It's not a surprise anymore," Cockerton said Thursday. "I'm confident the Iroquois Nationals will do everything in their power to make sure they can participate and travel."

I hope there is a way that the state department can assist here.
Cockerton makes it sound trivial, as if he said "they can just get U.S. passports".

It won't. They flatly rejected that as an option in 2010. But there is plenty of time for the Iroquois and State to work something out with the Foreign Commonwealth Office.
