enjoy dion's last 6 home games

Haha I agree but Davis is still growing into his body. Everyone thinks he's gonna turn into a Kevin Garnett type of player. I think right now they could both turn into people who could guard players like Kevin Durant.

I dont see it (the comparison to Garnett). And there is only one Durant in the league. I mean Dwight would break those 2 in half!

The announcer for the Villanova game (Fraschilla?) said that Dion will be a better pro than college player.
I dont see it. I see him as a combo guard that will struggle from the outside in the league. Unless he figures out how to be more of a point, I dont see his game translating very well at all. Much like a bigger Flynn.

Can someone tell me who Anthony Davis and John Henson are going to guard in the NBA? The thought makes me shudder.

Imagine these guys potentially adding muscle and growing into their big frames, ala Dwight Howard? They arent going to stay the same.

A bigger Flynn is more like a Russell Westbrook type. 6'3 compared to 5'10 is monumental. Jonny Flynn didn't forget how to play basketball, he's just up against guys much bigger with the same skill set and athleticism.

Average ball handling skills? really? Dion! That is a shocking opinion from my perspective.

Dion is one of tjhe best 5 guards in college right now (maybe better than that) and has shown enough passing ability to keep GM's from being worried about him at the point. His shooting gets better all the time. He's 36% from three and 55% from the floor which includes floaters and pull ups. His handle is top notch and he's been great defensively this year. He has that attacking attitute on both ends.

He is top 15 right now IMO and will move into the top10 by the end of the season.

Average compared to NBA players definitely. In college, he's able to use his elite athleticism along with good enough ball handling that he's able to get into the lanes easily, but in the NBA, everybody else has a body like Waiters so he won't be able to just bounce off people and get into the lane, and I just don't see him as a guy that can handle the rock the way most starting PGs and undersized SGs can.

And his percentages aren't really that impressive considering he gets a ton of breakaway dunks and 36% from college 3 point range is nothing to write home about. I think he could be a lottery pick next year, but I just don't see it this year unless he plays like a man possessed in the tourny and then has great workouts in the combine.

fixed for accuracy :)

I dont see it. At least not that much. When Howard was in HS he was 255 (and plays now at about 265). Davis and Henson are 220 apiece. Those guys are more like Hak Warrick body types...

I dont think a Russell Westbrook type as Dion's upside is necessarily that far off. That would be a pretty nice career.

Whoever the hell he wants to guard with wings like those. Who was Tayshuan Prince going to guard? How big was KG when he got in the league? Being skinny to start isn't a problem in the NBA, it's not football.

A-Davis plus 30 pounds in 2 years. He'll be a 17 ppg, 13 rebs, 3 blocks shooting 50 from the field for 15 years and playing great defense. Absolute stud. Won't be the transcend star Durant is, but if Anthony Davis is your second best player, you're going to be one hell of a team for a long, long time.

The T'Wolves should tank the **** out of this year and stack Davis, Love, Rubio together...of course if they do that, they'll end up trading all three to the Lakers for Meta World Peace, Steve Blake and a conditional second-rounder...so nevermind.

Come on. Prince was a 6-9, 215 lb SF who often guarded 2 guards (see Kobe) creating all kinds of mismatches defensively.

I dont see how Davis and Henson gain 30 pounds. They just dont have the frames for it imo.

I dont think Henson will be of any consequence at the next level, but Davis looks to have serious potential. I have no concerns about his size in the league. Who does Carmelo Anthony guard? He has NBA size and he doesn't play much of any defense, but he sticks in the league because he is an all world offensive whirlwind who is impossible to stop. There are tons of guys in the league who don't play much defense. Ever watch the late night ESPN games out west?

Well Davis is primarily a defender...comparing him to Melo in that regard is silly. Yes, I watch quite a few of the late night games out west.

I think Davis has Garnett all-around ability down the road. KG was rail thin too back at Farragut Academy and when he came into the league.

Henson is not nearly as skilled offensively as Brandan Wright (not that he's polished at all) and Wright isn't doing much in his third season.

Dion leaving could be really problematic for us next season. With Kris and Scoop gone it would be some major offensive firepower to replace. I think we would be extremely offensively challenged next season if Dion is gone. Our halfcourt offense isn't that good this year. Dion often and Kris occasionally can bail us out by creating their own shot. Guard penetration sans Dion next year could be limited. We gotta make that Final 4 run NOW!

I love these college players in the nba threads. Its truely amazing the vast differences that many project players NBA potential at. Always fun and intersting trheads for me to read and participate in.

I agree with MyMeloMyMan on Henson. Henson is as soft as they come and is lacking in NBA level offensove skills IMO. Unless something major changes he will be meaningless in the NBA from what I have seen.

Davis competes and should be very good with some added muscle. He already has very good passing and dribbling skills for a guy his size IMO.

MCW can get to the rim at will. He really is going to be that good...and Cooney...can you imagine him on all the drive and dishes!

I haven't seen the "at will" part but I love his potential. Same with Cooney shooting.

Agreed, although I really love what I've seen from MCW so far this year and I think he'll wind up being an excellent player for us in the near future. I'd like to see CJ Fair continue to develop his game as well. Last year he had good finishing ability offensively and that was about it. This year, he's added a decent spot up jumper. If he can get better with his ball handling, he could potentially be a great #3 or #4 scoring option (although I'm skeptical how much he'll be able to improve his ball handling).

I think our offense would have to become much more play-oriented with Triche, Cooney, Southerland etc. working off of screens more instead of the massive amounts of pick and rolls and isolations that we do now. I really think MCW might be our key player moving forward once Joseph, Scoop, and Waiters are gone though.

Dion will be a better pro. His shot has improved. He plays a lot of iso in his game and has that mid range game (floaters) and body control to get in the paint at will. Solid lottery pick. I think a comp for him is Ben Gordon, who has had a pretty nice career in the NBA.

In regards to Fab, he is going to get picked in the 14-22 range. Everyone forgets the one talent that gets more attractive the closer draft day comes is height! I mean, Daniel Orton was a 1st round pick. He is raw, teams will have to develop him, but teams will draft him in the 1st round based on his upside.

I find the discussion about development in college vs. the NBA interesting. Some guys develop into players, some don't. Take Wes Johnson for instance, he hasn't done much in the NBA, but coming back another year for college wouldn't have turned him into a different player. Fab may be what he is. There is something to be said for striking when teams still believe you have upside as opposed to coming back a year for college and showing teams you don't.

I totally agree with this post and apparently Henson has a big ego too which is just crazy because he's not that good! I'm hoping that if Dion leaves then Triche takes a huge step forward. I'm also hoping Cooney is getting better during his redshirt season so he's ready to contribute right away.

I think Dion is as good as gone barring some major injury. Kid is the closest thing we've had to a surefire NBA star since 'Melo. His game translates perfectly to the NBA.
