Enrique Cruz

Had his best game of the year. Against FSU. Graded by PFF as our best pass blocker and 2nd best run blocker.

Did he get hurt? Per Tom’s post, he got pulled for the Ellis/Dakota combo.

I don’t know if he got hurt or just replaced but he played 14 plays less than the other starters which went to Ellis until he got hurt.

We were getting killed with the strong FSU pass rush and I think the thought was that our pass blocking would be better with Davis at LG and Cruz at RT. I suspect they didn't want to take Dakota out given it was his last home game.

Ellis seems better at run blocking than pass blocking, so he was the logical guy to get pulled. Not sure if the plan was to share PT between Kalen and Enrique the rest of the game but like Bees says, once Ellis was hurt, Enrique finished the game.

Enrique's solid play two games is a row is encouraging. I have him penciled in at LT for next season.

please god no. Also Bleich has played like he's over playing football coming off all those injuries.

I don't mean this to pile on Bleich. As you point out, he dealt with injuries this offseason, and I'm guessing he is still slightly impaired in a way that he won't be in 3-6 months.

That said, I'm slightly disappointed in what we've seen. I expected a transfer who started games at Florida to have a bigger impact and elevate the play of the entire OL, a la Koda Martin. My concern is that he's merely OK. Nothing wrong with that, just disappointed by the early returns.

He had major Hip surgery this past offseason. When you watch him you can tell his hips don't open up as well as he'd like and his lateral movement has suffered because of it.

Berg was going up against Verse so that had a lot to do with his grading this week.

Exactly. I’d cut him some slack. He was often going against a kid that might be a top 10 pick.

Verse reminded me of an Isaiah Simmons light.

He’s the real deal and thats not a reflection of anything Berg did wrong. Maybe a wakeup call though.

I doubt it but I’d love to have him come back. Gonna be breaking in too many newbies.
Would like to see Vet get a full year at OT.
He did well there last year until he got hurt, and team went south.

With Vett and Cruz at tackles and Ellis at one guard you at least have a foundation to build on. Really doubt Bleich comes back, but if he does I would like to see the experiment of moving him to center pick up. Tried him there a bit in August, but I think there were some issues with snaps. Less lateral movement might make him more productive.
Fill in at RG with a youngster or portal and you have a starting point. Then see if you have any upgrades.

It's probably an amazing feat that Bleich is even on the field so in light of this...what's to be said that coaches preferred this from the get-go rather than rolling with Cruz at OT and Davis at G early on.

It also begs the question, where is the development of everyone else? Some of these kids have been in the program for 3+ years.

Anthony Red - 6-5 277
Josh llaoa 6-3 316
Darious Tisdale 6-5 301 SR
Mark Petry 6-4 281 R_SO
Jakob Bradford 6-5 302 R_SO
Austyn Kauki 6-5 270 RF
Tyler Magnuson 6-5 277 RF

Four of these guys are light.

I think Red will make a run next year for a starting spot.

With this group I guess maybe. But he has been here 4 years and hasn't really seen the field. I know other have said he's dealt with injuries but this doesn't make me all that optimistic. Also don't like that he's 277 lbs. We have one Juco guard coming in that can possibly help sooner but I think we really need at least one portal addition as an upgrade. I feel like all of Davis, Bleich and Ellis were all worse this year than in 2021. I know Bleich was coming back from injury and Ellis was definitely banged up a bit lately. But not feeling great with what seems to be the likely starting talent and depth for 2023.

Mark Petry R-So at 281 lbs and Jakob Bradford R-So at 302 lbs have been on the depth chart and would be expected to contend.

Anybody hear anything about how these young guys are looking?

Kauhi RFR 270 lbs
Magunson RFR 280 lbs
Joe Cruz FR 277 lbs (Been on depth chart)
Joe Schuster FR 255 lbs (obviously will not be ready yet)

That JC OT at least has the size to play right away. No how good he actually is ?

Do we see any of this group being a future starter? Other than Cruz, doesn’t seem like much depth or future here.
