Eric Silakowski, a veteran athletics administrator who has led various Division I fundraising units, has joined Syracuse University as the Associate Vice President for Athletic Development and will lead the 'Cuse Athletics Fund.

Silakowski brings eight years of marketing, fundraising and promotional expertise from multiple Division I schools, including his most recent job as Associate Director of Athletics for Development at Yale University. In his new role, Silakowski will be responsible for the creation, strategic development, and implementation of all athletic fundraising and engagement efforts in support of the 20 men's and women's Division I Varsity sports programs, athletic facilities and name image likeness (NIL) initiatives at Syracuse University.

Yale and Air Force Academy ... two schools with very little in common with SU athletics.

The Air Force Academy gets its money from the US government, and I doubt NIL could be much of a factor there because of all the entrance requirements and student life participation requirements. (As a former long-time member of the USMA public affairs advisory board, I am very familiar with such things).

As for Yale, It may have wealthy alumni, but it ain't Bama or Texas in terms of athletics interest. Under-graduate attendance at sports events is almost non-existent, and alumni attendance at the Yale Bowl has fallen off dramatically over the years. There are weeds growing in the stands there!

I wish Mr Silakowski good luck in what is a very crucial position for SU Athletics. .

SU is adding administration positions left and right. They just added an administrative position last week for finding new sources of revenue. They’re basically the same position.

Yup, it seems like a strange fit but I hope he does well because we need him to be excellent.

I'm on the Yale campus a couple times a year for lacrosse events, and they've definitely upgraded their facilities a ton over the past decade. Not sure if this guy had anything to do with that, but money clearly has been raised.

It’s not hard to raise money for yale lacrosse when Joe Tsai calls and says “how much money can I give you?”

I agree. Why don't we get more of that at SU? We have no shortage of super wealthy alums.
