Eskridge article on ESPN

Wow. I remember reading some of this back when he committed. Powerful stuff.

He might not have been the most consistent player we've had [always seemed to get dinged up], but it sure would be great for him to make it. Kudos to Eskridge for persevering and thriving in the face of adversity.

Met Durell's surrogate father last year at the Hilton Meadowlands after the Notre Dame game. Mentioned he ran to the men's room and missed his son's pick 6 so I knew immediately who he was. Shared some things about Durrell's past that aren't in any of these stories and directed me to the ACC video feature on him. He also shared with me that Durell had already decided that he would be leaving early to help his family.

Incredible to see the conditions some of these kids come from and really makes you admire the dedication, the perseverance and the internal strength they exhibit.

Told him how proud we are of these kids and that we always will consider them as part of our Orange family. I swear he teared up a little and at that point took out his phone, called D on the bus and handed me the phone to say hello.

Durell, we're with you and like I told you that night, you're always Orange!

I know his plight, but I still wish he would have stayed another year since it could have helped his draft stock. Having that degree and perhaps advanced degree can mean more financially over the long run.

That said, I'm a big fan and I hope he sticks. He was a pleasure to meet in person and my son remarked on how nice and personable he was at the last fanfest we attended two years ago.
