This is good. The more its discussed in the media the more the ball gets momentum and we see these proposals discussed at conference meetings.

The 3+5+5 model benefits every school in the SEC/ACC any P5 conference. You still play the same the number of conference games. Every player that stays 4 years plays in every conference stadium and conference title games get more even matchups.

Who would be SU's "3"?

Who would be SU's "3"?

Most likely BC, Pitt, and Louisville. I wish there were a way to dump Louisville from that list but I don’t see other schools wanting them either.

My preference Boston College, Pittsburgh, and Miami.

Miami would have 2 no-brainers Florida State and Virginia Tech. They would want either Pittsburgh, Boston College or Syracuse for their 3rd because of their Northeast alums.

If we didn't get Miami its likely our 3rd would be Louisville.

Here is what I think the 3 annual opponents would be

1. Florida State- Clemson, Miami, Georgia Tech
2. North Carolina- NC State, Duke, Virginia
3. NC State- North Carolina, Wake Forest, Clemson
4. Clemson- Georgia Tech, NC State, Florida State
5. Georgia Tech- Clemson, Duke, Florida State
6. Duke- North Carolina, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech
7. Virginia- North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Louisville
8. Miami- Florida State, Virginia Tech, Boston College
9. Virginia Tech- Virginia, Miami, Pittsburgh
10. Louisville- Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Virginia
11. Boston College- Syracuse, Miami, Wake Forest
12. Syracuse- Boston College, Pittsburgh, Louisville
13. Wake Forest- Duke, NC State, Boston College
14. Pittsburgh- Syracuse, Louisville, Virginia Tech

I personally would make some changes if I could but this is how I would see it being finalized.

I think the ACC should be progressive here and implement this change first. It would immediately improve the entertainment value of the conference and you'd probably see recruiting jump across the board.

Can't be done until the NCAA changes its rules, which require a 2-division set up in order to have a conference championship game (except for the Big XII).

You've studied this way too much.

They say in the article that it would work great for the ACC too.

There isn't a 2 division NCAA obstacle anymore right? Now that the Big 12 has a championship game?

They just need to do it. It's stupid how little you play the other side. Those games have little to no conference feel.

Virginia Tech will fight and lobby for a North Carolina team to be in their regular rotation.

We all know we'd get BC and Pitt, but I hope Louisville isn't the third. None of their fans ever travel here, nor do we travel there.

They would get an annual NC game in their rotation of the 10 teams.
They would play 5 of those 10 teams every year. With 4 of them being NC teams they would get that game there.

Selfishly, I hope we always play Louisville every year... We've got a little bit of a rivalry with them and it's one of the only away games that I can make every couple of years.

I believe the obstacle still exists. The ACC tried to get the NCAA to vacate the rule that to have the CG, you must play a set division schedule with each division playing a round robin. The Big 12 seconded the ACC proposal, because it wanted to play a CG without adding 2 more teams.

The Big Ten led the fight against the ACC proposal, and the Big Ten magnanimously agreed to support the BIg12's desire. So as of now, we cannot drop divisions and keep the CG.

Selfishly I want Maryland, errrr, UVA.

There is no way Syracuse and Louisville should be paired together. Louisville is really hard and expensive for SU fans to get to and vice versa. We have no rivalry with them, no geographic connection and playing in the other region does nothing for either school. It is the worst possible match for both schools. This is an awful idea.

We should play Pitt, BC and Miami.
UL should play Pitt, UVa and VT.
Miami should play FSU, BC and SU.

Miami gets to play in the NE every year. Good for all their NJ players and students. Plus, we had the makings of a great rivalry with them.

SU gets to play in Florida every other year. Miami is easy to get to and we have a ton of alums within driving distance.

UL gets to play 3 schools close to them. Virginia and Kentucky have a special relationship going back to colonial times. Pitt and UL have the Ohio River in common. Reasonable drives for all involved.

Everyone wins. Let’s do it.

If this can’t be done, we should play UVa instead of UL. But not UL under any circumstances.

Sorry Rags. I remain strongly pro trough!

Both sides would want that game annually.
Just flipping BC with UL and SU with Miami would accomplish that as well.

So strong is this bond between the Commonwealths that Louisville has played UVa and VPI a combined 14 times. If the ACC/3-3-5 is adopted, SU will have UL in its grouping.

I will say this, FSU should be forced to take them, after all, the Seminoles were the school that insisted that UL receive the 14th bid to enter the ACC (upon Maryland departing). Remember the old southern axiom: Once Metro Conference brethren, ALWAYS Metro Conference brethren?

4 16 team conferences

Play each team in your conference once

Conference winners go to a 4 team playoff

skurey gets 10% of all revenue for this idea

If Florida State didn’t get Georgia Tech as their 3rd team I bet Louisville would be the next choice.

It would be a lot better for the fans on both sides and for our recruiting if we didn't have to go to Louisville every other year, instead going to Miami. Hope it happens.

I love Miami as an annual opponent and as a destination, but I don't think the rivalry angle holds much weight. It was a pretty one-sided affair except for 2 brief years. And this is coming from someone who thinks the 1992 game was the most emotional and intense game SU has ever played in program history. That being said, should an annual series begin, I think both programs are more evenly matched now than they ever were back then.
