On the local news the chronology I heard was that the accuser went first to the Post Standard, who wouldn't print the story due to the lack of corroboration, then to the Syracuse police, who said they couldn't do anything due to the statue of limitations. But the DA's office was never informed about the allegation. SU began their own investigation and when the "witnesses" said they didn't see anything, Bernie was cleared.

ESPN just reported this as SU doing an investigation but never informing the police of their investigation. I wonder what they were supposed to report? That nothing happened?

The University did and didn't conduct the investigation ... they initiated the investigation and Bond, Schoeneck & King conducted the investigation. They 1) are not obligated in any way to report to the police or DA's office; only to their client, Syracuse University and 2) (not sure here) they couldn't report it to anybody but SU b/c of client confidentiality and lawyer-client privelege. Once seeing the results of the investigation what were they going to report to the police or DA's office ... "We found nothing?"

NBC just said that the University conducted it's own investigation and found nothign and did report that to the police.

It just shows how careless reporting can be.
