ESPN Layoffs

And yet many of those same people he listed have been subjects of hate and disdain on this board and I'm sure posters could care less if they got laid off in reality. A bunch of faux sadness going on.
None of the people mentioned outside of Schilling have a chance to be fired.
Berman has a job for life.
SAS just resigned with ESPN for 3 million a year.
Greenberg is the corporate hack that ESPN loves and he is half-face of their radio division.

I may dislike some people at ESPN however I would never publicly take pleasure in someone losing their job. It is pure ahole not faux outrage or sadness.

Go read some past threads on Smith.

There are people on this site and friends who can be in that pool, the place is filthy with SU grads. The poster in question besides being a lot of things failed to connect the dots on that one.

I'm sure nobody here is friends with Smith. Also, if everyone is concerned about the layoffs, I wonder why 90% or more of the board has advocated not watching ESPN and other not so pleasant things. Ratings and viewership play a role in employment levels.

Okay so a bunch of no names behind the scenes people lost their jobs. And ?

I was one of those no names actually...lol.

Edit: I wasn't technically "laid off". I was on contract and wasn't extended. Still though.

My post had zero to do with the topic of this thread

Which makes it worse.

I despise ESPN because of their recent coverage of stuff involving my teams Syracuse/Patriots.
With that said I hate hearing this as the people losing their jobs aren't going to be the people on the top of pyramid it is going to be the support staff and the people behind the scenes doing the grunt work.
Man it sucks to hear this. ESPN is feeling the crunch of their profits going down because the cost of live sporting rights going up thru the roof.

This looks like it will be at least middle of the pyramid people. Not sure many people who are grunts that make 6 figures. My company did something similar last September, but they structured it as a voluntary retirement. Let's just say it was less voluntary for some than others.

Personally, I've made it through 5 "restructurings", "voluntary retirements", "reduction in force" or whatever my company will be calling it next time over the last 12 years. It helps that I work closely with HR in determining certain accounting aspects of the lay-off, plus no one else wants my job. But, it sucks seeing people I've worked with for years on the list before they know they're on the list.

There are probably a bunch of SU alums among the 350 SUs TRF majors, behind the scenes people, are frequently hired by ESPN. Regardless please revise your statement.

Hate to be the bearer of bad tidings but here goes ...

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...aid-planning-to-eliminate-as-many-as-350-jobs

I am still optimistic about the ACC - I think it is getting better and every program can help by becoming more competitive - what I see happening is an ACC cable network in 2017. Hope your favorite team makes it to a bowl game this year despite the problems - the only "bad" game they played was the 2nd half against USF.

Certainly understandable - ESPN is making such paltry money with the dual revenue model of advertising and per person subscription fees.

Bravo! Interesting thing that is hypocrisy...

I got laid off while my wife was 6 months pregnant with our second child. Talk about pressure... Thankfully they let me know it was going to happen a few months in advance so I was able to shore up my Resume and start job hunting. I still ended up taking something that I really didn't want because I HAD to have a job with the kid on the way. Still, the whole process stinks and I wouldn't wish that on most people. Hopefully everyone there lands on their feet.

I am one of those who exhausted unemployment benefits and will lose health insurance at the end of this month. I did recently turn down two short term jobs out of state just waiting on the Buffalo Billions to gear up for a longer term job.Thank god Erie County put in some stiff language for local job creation. Illegals are killing it up in the construction trades both for union and non-union workers...fact of life now.

Now let's just hope they lay off their resident killer though as he should be in jail and not giving us football talk.

Nice compassion for the underlings of this world.

I agree with this post 99%. The one person I wouldn't feel bad for is Mark Schwarz. He's lousy.

You'd have to explain what "revise" means first.

Been laid off; don't wish that on anyone, because it sucks. Hard.
Me too. I've been a victim of two "corporate reorganizations" within an industry that's become very volatile.

Very unpleasant experience.

Right, so these people clearly matter far less. I'm sure that'll make it easier for the families they're trying to support.

"I got laid off today, but don't worry honey, I'm just a nobody who works behind the scenes."
I think he just means relative to his own life
