I was checking out the espn poll that polls the entire country and who they want to win the NC. I'm shocked that SU doesn't get much love besides NY. They are getting single digits across the south and Midwest. They are last in every northeast state except Vermont! Whatever happened to our national presence??

Who they want also has to do with who they have in their brackets. I'm guessing a lot of people are on the Louisville bandwagon.

Just guessing...all the NCAA/Bernie Fine/drug testing/ineligibility stuff is a factor and not a decrease in "national presence."

Not surprising:

1) All the witch hunting bad press has turned us into the red orange-headed step child of college bball.
2) Wichita State is the big underdog, and everyone cheers for the underdog.
3) This soon after that Louisville 'accident' there are bound to be people pulling for them.
4) Michigan is one of the biggest schools with one of the biggest groups of alumni in the country

Apart from being a huge Syracuse fan, why should anyone root for us?

If Duke and Florida would have won I bet our map would look a LOT different.

I am a frequent visitor to forums of other DI schools. I'd have to say that Syracuse basketball has become over the past 3 years one of the most hated programs in college sports. Certainly, we have our fans, and we still have the respect of the serious basketball fan. Casual fans, on the other hand, are very susceptable to the butt-hurt crowds at The Boneyard, Blue & Gold (WVU), etc. The Catholic 7 hates Syracuse for "breaking up the Big East" and being in thrall to "the football God." The left-behinds in the Metro American hate Syracuse for destroying their "legitimacy." Those who want to destroy the ACC -- fans of the B1G, WVU, Rutgers, the Big 12 -- hate Syracuse.

To all that I say You! Embrace the Hate. Beat Michigan. Then let the two best ACC schools show the country how college basketball should be played.

Another factor- We also have no conference loyalty support. The remnants of the Big East hate us, the ACC doesn't quite yet identify with us yet.

I really don't care. If everyone is rooting against you it means you have a shot.

I'm not surprised.
But why should we care what non-Syracuse fans think?

Georgetown: your nets are missing!
Michigan: You're next!

GO ORANGE!

This is only the half of it. The casual fan thinks we are a combo Larry Flynt / 1990's era UNLV / Miami Football / Eddie Haskell / and the guy who pants them in middle school. Add to this that our success is based almost completely upon "getting lucky" in the view almost all analysts and the story line about Syracuse remains losing four out of five at the end of the regular season, not on being 7-1 since then.

We are going to have to face that Syracuse's public image has been torched over the past 2-3 years to the point that it will take many many years for people to think of this as a clean program.

HoustonCuse: I went to like you post because I agree 100% with it, but then I realized that there is really nothing to like about it.

Yeah I know. Its also why I fear losing Hopkins could be a program killer but thats probably for a different thread.

I think a lot of the Louisville support is due to the Kevin Ware factor. If one does not have a favorite team in the mix, I think there's an inclination to go the "Win one for Kevin" route.

Totally understand the Ware support, but I am surprised there isnt more for MCW and family.
