Or maybe they listened to Jay with Neptune and said we will make this pick. Just a thoughtAs I’ve said before, Kevin Willard had a terrible reputation in coaching circles. I’m shocked Jay Wright allowed him anywhere near the program, but maybe he acquiesced to the big donors who wanted a splash name.
Eh.Maybe Willard gave Thomas the talk and then he bolted? When our coaches do it they are praised for honesty. When someone else does it he’s a snake.
Willard is a snake for a lot more than giving the kid the talk. I mean, he missed his team's dinner the night before a tournament game so he could interview for another job.Maybe Willard gave Thomas the talk and then he bolted? SU Freshman Taurean Thompson - Willard was suspended for tampering, resulting in him missing games at SHU. Then recruited SU’s Kadary Richmond to SHU who played a year for him, then Willard left for Maryland.Willard is a snake for a lot more than giving the kid the talk. FactsPlenty of top coaches are snakes, it's just a matter of who's better at corralling media and public opinion to their side. Pitino and Pearl seem to have it down, as did Calipari and Scott Drew at their peaks. Willard not so much but he's also not as accomplished.

I wasn’t talking about the quality of coaching. As you said in another post after mine, Willard is known as a snake, a liar, and a bad person among the coaching fraternity. He’s really disliked. That’s what I meant. Not that he’s a bad coach (though I don’t think he’s anything special). That’s why I said I’m surprised Jay would sign off on the hire. There were plenty of other very good coaches that Nova could have hired who aren’t crap humans. Yes, of course the powers that be weren’t going to let Jay handpick the head coach this time, but you’d think his opinion would hold sway if a candidate was an egregiously atrocious pick, like Willard. Wright’s top choice wasn’t Neptune from what I heard. He wanted Baker Dunleavy to replace him but Nova powers didn’t and Wright didn’t publicly argue nor undermine their 1st choice of Kyle Neptune who he did like.I wasn’t talking about the quality of coaching.
