Never cared for the SJ logo. We are Syracuse not St. John's. This article doesn't show all of the historical logos, but actually makes a lot of them look pretty good.

There's nothing for them to "sign off" on. It's just an orange colored shirt with a number and name of a city on it.

That’s not exactly correct. The description alone says Syracuse Orange. And it is Officially Licensed by the NCAA.
