Eyeball Test on the HC Candidates

Stats are cute & all, but I have started watching highlights from the games where our HC candidates are coaching. Thought we could have a thread devoid of statistical wizardry & hatred towards JBs coaching tree. Just observations.

Schertz
* vs Memphis
* got blown out by 30. It wasn't pretty.
* was my favorite going in based on his wl record. Need to revaluate.
* had some skilled dudes, but they absolutely could not keep up with Memphis & were gassed about halfway in.

Hodgson
* vs I forget
* good assemblage of athletes. Like a bunch of Qadirs, but with good attitudes
* They played with controlled recklessness, kinda like a Nolan Richardson team but w less talent.
* not my favorite style, but understand why some would find it exciting. Need to watch more.

GMac
* maac championship vs Merrimack
* his team was lights out on O early & lock down on D for 75% of the game.
* the chemistry & fire with which they played is reminiscent of how our favorite Irishman used to play.
* the big man played inside, amazing to find one who still does that! Had a good set of post moves. Love it.
* Darty was outstanding.
* the biggest weakness I saw was the pass into the top of the key. It was like a telegraphed rainbow pass you'd see at the Y in a 5th grade game. Crazy.
decided to finally peek into this thread and this is just... wow

I mean, we can play this game all day.

The anti JB coaching tree crowd needs to relax. They are coming across in a negative way. Like literally acting like what you are accusing the pro gmac crowd of.

The board & AD will do whatever anyway.
I mean, you started with this absurd "eye test" using the whopping sample size of one game per coach. Hell, you could do Cuse vs Houston or Tennessee and come up with Red is awesome based on your "criteria".

Coaches like Hurley - does this mean you'd be OK with Bibby Hurley or Luke Murray?

coaches like Pitino - does this mean that you'd ne OK with Richard Pitino?

Or does it all mean that you would really be fully OK only with someone who presents and coaches like Jay Wright? Is so does such a person exist?
Guys who coach hard and have agressive teams. Coaches who are engaged, but don’t present (press conference, Italian restaurant) like an a@&&$&

We are trying to manifest one. It requires patience and absolute belief.

Fan base needs exciting style of play. So do donors. Need to light up the scoreboard. Lakers showtime. No Defensive rock fights. I’d ask candidates “what’s your plan to do that?”

A 52-50 loss is as bad as a 104-100 loss.

“Hey we scored a bunch” is zero consolation.

Blair had an interview with MW saying he wants excitement on offense and defense.

BH is the only candidate that fits that mold

A loss is a loss, but one isn't nearly as boring as the other

This is my trepidation with the BH hire. It’s like the ‘shoot first ask questions later’ offense is the shiny new toy that has caught everyone’s eye. His defense seems good, though, so I’m less worried about that, but I’m not infatuated with the idea that scoring a bunch of points is inherently less boring.

My favorite SU teams over the years were the ones that had suffocating defense. You could see them break the will of the opponent.
