Is it legal? I am no rules expert but I always heard it was not allowed. There were multiple times yesterday when the Auburn defender had his hand right in front of buddy’s face when buddy had the ball.

If it wasn’t legal once in my life i think I’d have heard a foul for someone doing it.. never heard an illegal D called in college

If it isn't legal, that was pretty blatant yesterday.

Ya ive never seen it called before either but i dont often see it as clearly as i saw yesterday. I mean the defender was basically face palming buddy

Isn't that what you are suppose to do? You know, put a hand in his face????

I officiate high school girls and we use women’s NCAA rule book…..face guarding is a violation.

Interesting. Thats what I thought. I figure they let it slide most of the time but Auburn was doing was blatant.

I looked it up and its actually a technical foul. Someone should mention this to staff.

Section 4. Class B Technical Infractions
Art.1. Atechnicalfoulshallbeassessedtoaplayerorasubstituteforthefollowing infractions:
a Purposely obstructing an opponent’s vision by waving or placing hand(s) near his eyes

My guess is that the staff knows the rule. They need to alert the officials to it if it’s being missed.

They just had their “safe space “ violated by Smith when he taunted the bench . How could they be expected to function ?

But isn't there a difference between fronting someone with your back towards the ball and sticking your hands near the opponents eyes?

For sure, i was talking about a few times where buddy was squared up and the defender was clearly purposely trying to block buddy’s vision

There was one where he drove in from the free throw line and it looked like the defender was palming Buddy's head.

Isn't there an easy solution? Swing your arm up into his hand in the process of a jump shot. When guys foul out and you're shooting 3 free throws at a time, guys will stop.

I remember Julius Hodge doing that to Shumpert in 2001-02, even touching his forehead at times, when we played NC State. He may have actually poked him in the eye once.
