That's my question regarding Wildhack. What is he thinking? How long can this go on and get sold to the fan base.
Hot take: he’ll do what Melo tells him to
Yeah, I guess I meant in a way that might offend John‘s friends here…Not sure that is such a hot take…

suggesting he’s not really in control of this one
Failing fast means that you have to MOVE ON.In the tech industry, there is a concept that it's better to fail fast than fail slow. Well, we are definitely failing fast. I never imagined Syracuse basketball would ever look this bad. Is JW starting to think about what comes next?
Coach Melo.Hot take: he’ll do what Melo tells him to
He does not work the refs, there are no adjustments, frankly it’s hard to watch.Failing fast means that you have to MOVE ON.
It's not about watching failing and doing nothing.
We are doing nothing - re-watch the second half and see what enthusiasm and sideline "coaching" Red is doing. Compare that with anyone else.
That is fair. We are horribly coached. I would as I have said, gone outside when we were making the decision. But, I just think he has to coach us next year. For one thing, I don't think we have the dough to fire him. If we are busing to games, how can we afford two head coaches. Second, this past recruiting class is good. Next years look even better. You win with players. He does not work the refs, there are no adjustments, frankly it’s hard to watch.
I actually think we have failed slow when you go back to when we were elite in 2012 and 2014. It's been a 10 year decline from elite to what we are now.
I'm think John doesnt have a ton of power, he got enough support to end JB but not enough support to go outside, instead he made a hire that would please the majority but wasn't necessarily shooting for the moon, ie short sighted, play it safe, not to make it seem JB was fired and embarrass him.
Yes, but then hopefully they decide to man up and make a big boy hire. A coach with no SU affiliation.Agree 100%.
It was an 8 year decline at the end of Boeheim's tenure... and Wildhack's approach was to promote the second in command, who was also one of the coaches responsible for the 8 year decline.
Ultimately, I just don't think that Red is a "good" enough coach to have a different approach, beyond what he learned under Boeheim. And it shows on game day.
Which is sad, because now we are going to sink even FURTHER than where we were two years ago, coming off of a losing season / follow-up season where we were barely .500.
Going to be an even more difficult uphill climb if they part ways with Red.
You make a good point. It has been a rough decade. And for most of that time, it was fairly obvious what was happening. Given JB's stature here, I'm not sure making a change earlier was possible. It would have required an AD with some serious juice.I actually think we have failed slow when you go back to when we were elite in 2012 and 2014. Except for that 2nd NCAA sanctions the school could have, I think that would not have been the right move but they might have been justified, and then ensuring Hopkins took over as was planned. 2 opportunities right there. You make a good point. I agree. But nobody on the hill had the will or the power to pull it off... Shoot, they just barely had enough juice to replace him two years ago.Except for that 2nd NCAA sanctions the school could have, I think that would not have been the right move but they might have been justified, and then ensuring Hopkins took over as was planned. 2 opportunities right there.
