Fair to say that ACC was the best conference this year

I posted this over on the ACC board a little after 2 AM this morning:

In reviewing the NCAA tourney brackets since 1979-80 when the field expanded to 48, this is what I found in terms of 4(5) Sweet 16 berths in one year.

ACC (10) - 84, 85, 86, 89, 90, 92, 93, 95, 15, 16
B1G (5) - 80, 89, 99, 12, 13 (with 16 still a possibility)
BE (4) - 85, 03, 06, 09
PAC (3) - 97, 98, 01
SEC (2) - 86, 96

It was a quick search done late at night, so I may have missed one or two.

Cheers,
Neil

Stop. The big east should not be in any kind of comparison talk to the new ACC. That's just nonsense.

I was just mentioning the fact that the Big East would've had the best record in the NCAAT if they won a couple of upcoming games, they would've had a 6-1 record right now. Since they lost both of those games yesterday they won't have the best record after today no matter what happens. There's still a slim chance they could wind up with the best conference record at the end of the tournament but that is highly doubtful.

That kind of talk sounds a lot like trying to compare the two conferences, like they are in the same stratosphere.

I will trust you and your contention that mathematically the now named Big East could somehow come out with a better record. But it is not going to happen. And more realistically the mathematics exist that the new ACC could set records, not only for sweet sixteen teams, but elite 8, and final 4s.

The Big East now does an injustice to the name, the ACC should buy it and give it to the Northern division.

Not for nothing, but if my aunt had b*lls she'd be my uncle.
