Fake punt

literally ended up being the deciding factor of the game. I was screaming at the TV, "FAKE! FAKE FAKE!" as soon as they called a timeout. And then when they came out in that formation it was so obvious...and I'm not that smart, I'm sure I wasn't alone.

We knew it was coming. We couldn’t stop it. Does that make it better?

Clemson should start running that play on 3rd downs.

And every passing down really.

I’ve never seen a team do less with more. I would have thrown jump balls to those monster WRs much more often.

I wonder why Garret Williams never made an attempt at that ball. Perhaps it was over his head but still. Maybe you get a fingertip on it.

Dino kept the starting D on the field.

Clemson kid made the catch over both Jahad Carter and Garrett Wiilliams.

Except Pena was back deep to return if they actually kicked it.

Might’ve been able to break it up if another Safety was in to help Williams.

The safety who helped late had to decide which Clemson receiver to help cover.

The fake worked because SU didn’t play its defense straight up and had Pena 30 yards off the LOS.

Fake punt was obvious

Yeah, it was clear that it was coming. I even said to my buddy in the 4th row, "They're going for it" as they were lining up. Hats off to them, though; that was a 15 yard completion on the sidelines with 2 guys in coverage. Nice throw. As my friend said, "Dabo had to resort to a trick play to score."

Yeah. It was defended pretty well
I actually believe that we defended it pretty well. From my vantage point it looked like a really good pass (especially for a punter) and catch.

I believe the punter is the same punter who missed on the pass in 2017.

Dino should have called a TO to discuss how to best defend that formation. Chances are Dabo then punts.
I’d guess the punter has a simple read to determine whether to throw or kick.

If we lined up another body on the outside to show we were potentially doubling all receiving options he just kicks it deep with no return.

We kept Pena back and gave the punter a look to tempt him to throw it. He made a good throw to their best WR.

Next time we'll make sure our best corner is on the guy their punter is throwing to...

Our D was on the field and we got beat

I'm pretty sure that Garrett Williams was out of the game by that point.

1. We had 10 defenders vs their 11.

2. The D didn’t know how to address the play. If we call TO and show a different look then they likely punt.

Garrett Williams never returned to the field after that play, looks like he smacks the back of his head on the turf.

His right arm/elbow was in a brace after that.

Tough season so far for GW. Hamstring problems early in the year and now this.

I hope this isn’t serious and wish him a speedy recovery.

I don’t see anything from that replay That would make me think he injured his shoulder or his arm. I do notice the hit Carter lays is on Williams though and looks like he his right shoulder. Which one was in the sling?

Personally I think if we call the time out, Dabo goes for it with his offense at that point in the game. I had no issue with the call by Dino here
