Feel very good about Howard next year

NIT might be the best thing for Howard's development. Give him 35 minutes per game going forward.

My fear is this team plays uninspired and goes out early.

Yeah, it was such a good opportunity for Warrick in 2002, but Shumpert and Duany's leadership on that team was, I think, a little stronger than what we have now.

It's like the Cooney Protection Team tries going out of their way to bash Frank because they're self-conscious of the fact people on the board are starting to prefer Howard get some of Cooney's minutes, which today gave us a chance to win.
You know, very effective treatments for paranoia are available.

Was the play of the game. It gave Pitt 2 pts and the lead when they couldn't score. But the good news, he isn't Cooney so let's not blame him. He will be a role player here. He can't shoot at all. And while he is a slick ball handler, he pounds too much and turns it over too much.

While I don't disagree with your assessment of his game presently, for our sake lets hope he improves overall and becomes more than a role player. I think he's got a chance to be most improved player next year and be a solid contributor.

I don't know about that. They allowed that cancer named meshaun to metastasize

Howard has to learn how to shoot before I can feel confident in him to be rock solid. I love his skill set and his ability out of PNR's. But he HAS to learn how to shoot. Even James Robinson learned how to shoot and it has opened his game up.

I keep hearing this stuff about "learning to shoot".

- the guy played limited minutes all year, a shot here, a shot there
- some guards can't shoot. MCW was not a good shooter. still isn't.
- we have really limited idea of how howard can shoot until he gets consistently 15 mins/game
- he's a freshman
- best playmaker on the team for others
- our starting shooting guard could barely shoot

Read that last bullet point again.

Howard isn't suddenly becoming a good shooter.

He may get a little better, but he's always going to be a pass first PG.

He passed up a few easy shots today because he knows JB will pull him if he misses.

Last year against Villanova Kaleb Joseph made a cross court pass that was stolen and taken down for a score by Villanova. Terrible play that killed SU and led to a loss. Howard's pass today was the worst I've seen since then. A pass that I'm sure he would love to take back. 100% his fault IMHO. With that said, he played better on defense than Cooney and led the team better. Is he the answer next year? I doubt it. His shooting is simply horrendous. Other teams will back off of him and allow him to shoot all day from outside unless he improves dramatically. I remember 1986 when a Freshman by the name of Sherman Douglas backed up Pearl Washington. I shuddered every time Douglas came into the game because of his inconsistencies. He turned out to be pretty good so I'm hoping Howard shows similar improvement.

Certainly, but once the season was in the toilet I was under the impression that he was cut out and the team rallied around the other two. As well as they could, given the circumstances, at least.

The pass at the top of the key by G to Lydon was worse. Not only that, he dove on the floor and knocked it away from Lydon which led to a dunk.

Part of me hopes they mail it in or turn down the invite. Not sure I can stomach watching NIT games in an empty dome. I'm done watching basketball until November. Anything basketball related for the next 3 weeks will just be painful reminders of things I want to forget.

Our starting shooting guard had more 3's in the first 5 min of this game than
Frank had for the season. Just saying

Cool.

Cooney played better today on offense than he has in a few weeks (3-8). That makes this entire thing so ironic and funny...for multiple reasons.
