Fifteen teams on NET Top 40 lost their first game.

It is clear that NET is a bad ranking tool. So many upsets on the first round of NCAA tournament.
the NCAA sets the tournament up to purposefully try to create as many upsets as possible...if you havent noticed you havent been paying attention

but yeah the NET blows chunks

Maybe they need to go back to how a team is playing at the end of the year, and not just the entire year.
Especially now with the portal, it takes an almost entire new team time to jell.
need to start weighing the last 10 games much more and weighing the first 10 much less imo

If one team gets upset, is an upset.

If almost half of the teams the NET thinks are the best in the country lose to "inferior" teams, it's a trend.

And it's a huge data point that the NET isn't very good.

It's always been not very good, we just weren't good enough to be upset about it until this year.

Six years of at times ridiculous results and it still really hasn't come under fire the way you would expect.

Probably ESPN is making extra money because of the NET, and they drive almost all sports "controversy" in America.

No ESPN banging the drum, no national conversation.
they might be making money short term...maybe...but they also just might be "optimizing" this sport into irrelevance!

all of the actors in NCAABB - programs, players, media, etc...better be careful not to overcook this golden goose...individual greed is having a negative effect on the heath of the sport BIG TIME, imo

This is the problem with all publicly run (stock) companies being forced to report their earnings every single quarter.

I know a CEO of a fortune 500 company.

He legitimately says to his wife every morning before going to work on day the earnings report comes out "This could be my last day on the job."

It's become a joke now, because the company has gone straight up under 15 years of his leadership, but even a single bad year could still be the end.

It makes long term thinking extremely difficult to be under that kind of scrutiny.

And that is exactly how it is at ESPN.

You would think the NCAA would be smarter, but the NCAA is like a jar filled with scorpions. They all will stab the one next to them just to get closer to the top of the jar.

Nobody can do the right thing long term under these circumstances, so the product withers.
