Final Fours

06 Florida had 3 guys who went in the top 10 of the 07 draft. I dunno on that one. Don't think I can agree with you on that one.
Senior 06 GMac led SU played Florida that year tough at MSG.
06 Florida was not 07 Florida.
06 Florida didn't have Horford as developed it was Noah's point forward skills and Lee Humphrey/Corey Brewer shooting.

I think 2003 Syracuse beats 2006 Florida.

To the 2002 Maryland team I think Jeremy McNeil could handle Lonny Baxter.
Dixon/Blake were a good backcourt but I think SU beats them as well.

I mean, the 2003 SU team lost to Rutgers. One game doesn't really do much for me. The 2006 team finished the country basically top 5 in both offense and defense. (third offense, six defense). Horford's numbers look pretty beastly to me even in 06. By the time the tournament came around they were crushing people, they won 5 of their six games by double figures. Going to have to disagree there. Think I'm with you on the others.

Edit: I was thinking of this more on a macro level than a micro "who would win a game between the two" but Florida would also probably be in a good position, since they could put Brewer on Melo. You aren't shutting him down, but he's a very good wing defender.

Well if were going to play the advanced stats game Umd finished 2 and 7.

I think them and 2008 KU May be the most underrated NC winners due in large part because theyre most visible players at the pro level are Juan Dixon (who's now into coaching) and Mario Chalmers respectively.

That's real interesting. I don't think I would have guessed that.

The KU team is weird because Chalmers is their best pro, but I was randomly looking at their roster with a buddy a few weeks ago, and it's stacked with really good college players. Cole Aldrich, who was a freshmen and has turned into a solid nba backup 5, if nothing else, could barely get on the court for them. Sherron Collins, Darrell Arthur, Chalmers, Brandon Rush, Darnell Jackson, Russell Robinson, even Sasha Kaun. Really strong roster.

They were #2 offensively and #1 defensively, btw.

Looked into it and found out the discrepancy, UCLA had their 1980 FF vacated by the NCAA, leaving them with 17.

We always play close attention to NCAA rulings on such things.

I guess it's taboo to say this on a Syracuse message board, but I would agree that our team was one of the weaker national champs of the modern era.

I informed JB on his show after the Encyclopedia came out that were in the bottom ten of "worst national champions" and we agreed that we want the entire list to say 'Syracuse' someday. Let's get all ten!

No arguments here!

1946, 1957, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1972, 1977, 1981, 1982, 1991, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2005, 2008, 2009, 2016

Looking at that list, it seems you left the 1997 FF out. 97 was the year Az got hot and we lost to them. :(

If I recall, Shammond Williams shot the lights out all season and then was ice cold in the final 4. Then the following year, he did the same thing. UNC was better than Arizona and Utah but lost to both. Hope that continues tomorrow!

We should have beaten Az, though it was close, but we would have beaten Utah 95+ times out of 100... only takes ONE bad night to send you home. That Utah loss is one that still haunts me, without a doubt UNC had the best team in the country... still went home.

We all have those. We should have beaten Iowa in 1980. We should have beaten Indiana in '87. We should have beaten Butler in '10. We should have had 3-4 national championships by now, not one. So let's steal one to help make up for it. ;)
