Howard, Brissett and Chukwu have far exceeded any reasonable expectations. Great job!

If they're going to win conference games, they're going to need similar production out of the defense.

I agree. But at the end of the day, winning or losing in the ACC is going to come down to offense for this team

Stats that we are in the top 20 in the NCAA (this has some fancy stats as well), including some of the same as OP.

also win place and show...
battle 37.2
brisset 37.0
howard 36.8

numbers 1,2,and 3 in minutes per game played in the ACC.
all three are also top 20 nationally !

And those are the numbers that I believe are unsustainable. We just finished the OOC! Those numbers are likely to rise now that we are entering league play. I know JB doesn't believe these guys are susceptible to overuse/injury from these many minutes, but I think he might be miscalculating the math on that one.

it's not just this year . it's every year. at least 2 in the top 10 mpg. sometimes 2 in the top 5 !
this is not an outlier stat due to injuries or sanctions . it's boeheim's basic philosophy.

Okay sorry I have to show some bad ones! Don't kill me!!

3P% - 323rd in the country at 29.8%
2p% - 274th in the country at 42.8%

Please shoot better!! Would love it if all these positive stats stay like this and we improve the shooting!

if this was such a great strategy (playing your starters 40 minutes a game ) then perhaps duke, kansas and nova might catch on....
it's not.

WOW. I would say that is quite impressive.

stats can look nice when only 6.5 players are playing.

prob dont want to look up 3p shooting or fg percentage. Oshae as an individual may be in last place in the country in fg% with a reasonable amount of attempts. (thats a wild, somewhat educated, guess)

Rebounding shouold be nice.

Perharps KU, Duke, Nova have more than 7 scholarship players? I know JB has done this in recent years but I'm not sure what the use of complaining about it this year is. There is no choice. You will see Chukwu on this list as the season wears on unless fouls prevent it.

Rotating Washington in for more experience in the preseason would have been somewhat easy to do and would give Battle assistance in recovering from his back. JB is stubborn to a fault. It will hurt at the end of the year.

You sound pretty definite, factual even. But you don't know it will hurt at the end of the year. And I'm sure you won't come back and revisit, if it in fact does not make one bit of difference.

And what about the flip side, the potential positives of having them play large minutes? Like knowing how to pace themselves, or developing a team strategy to accommodate the lack of depth and substitutions - ie slowing the game down.

Possibly but without those non conference wins we have no chance at the tournament and very few of them were walk overs. I think JB needs to go for broke this year with the team we have. It's high risk but it's really the only hope this year.

That's the thing. Most of these games have been close, and Thorpe was getting minutes while he was with the team. The walk-ons have played a total of 9 minutes to this point. Washington will have to gain experience in practice and be ready when called upon.

" Like knowing how to pace themselves ..."
is that code speak for taking plays off and not going 100 % every possession ?

I thought about this a lot a few years ago. When we play in NCAA tournament there is a lot of commercials. So some players having too much PT turns out not to be a problem once we get in to the tournament.

However, you could argue giving more PT to more players makes a deeper bench. There's trade-offs in all these decisions.

What is JB supposed to do? Geno Thorpe left the team in a fit of irrationality. And JB is calculating that the drop off from Frank and Tyus to Howard Washington is too much to risk playing him 15-20 mpg.
