Some notes:

First half:

Nassib int, had a guy open deep but a man in his face and rushed the throw. Tried to make a play which is admirable but potentially shouldve just chucked it into the bench.

Stevens shouldve laid out for that deep ball. Had to be able to get closer than what he did on what appeared a very well thrown ball.

Bailey misses some holes, doesnt have time to get started on others.

We looked damn good on the first scoring drive and the first quarter as a whole we looked quite dominate.

On defense we've got guys in position, just need to wrap and have more consistancy in making the play once there. This is a result of inexperience, but at least the coaches have guys where they should be to make plays.

4th and 1 "stop" looked like Smith had enough and the spot was well short of where he came down. Huge momentum shift for their D.

On offense, at some point their d coordinator has our number. Seems they are sitting on our snap count and possibly have an early read or "tell" before the ball is even snapped. Not sure what it might be but there is something that was picked up on and something we need to correct.

Sucks being out of timeouts. Rhody WR obviously trapped the ball and was credited with a catch. Our guys are standing around waiting for a review, they quick snap and run it in for a TD the next play. Suffice to say that is a learning experience and hopefully is not repeated for both the players and the coaches.

Our 2nd scoring drive was beautiful. Once Nassib settles down he is about as accurate as can be. Bailey had a tough run for a first down but looked like he couldve bounced it outside for a big gainer.

Keon Lyn with the vintage McNabb chucking his lunch on the field.

Bailey again looks quick to turn north south when potentially should stretch a few more towards the sideline.

First punt of the night with 3 mins left in the half. Poor kick, no height and short. New long snapper is much better on both punts and XP snaps though.

Nice pick on the tip by Phillip Thomas. Penalty on Dy Davis that wasnt shown on TV. Have to wonder what that last drive may have looked like starting from the 30 vs the 11.

Halftime: This game shouldnt be this tight. Rhody is a well coached team with a veteran QB. Decent pressure from the D line which following the updates and gamecast sure didnt sound like the case. Offense looks better in quick sets vs allowing the defense time to set up. Oline not getting overpowered just simply missing some blocking assignments. Should really be 21-0 or 28-0 but 14-7 which is both frusterating and give Rhody confidence.

That's all i've got time for tonight. We looked alot closer to a good team in the first half than a team that shouldve been up by only 7. Not sure if these notes are of any interest to the board but figured I'd share.

I enjoyed these notes. Thanks for sharing.

Didn't realize that the kids were standing around for the replay, not sure what I was doing at the time to not notice that.

I really wonder what the guys in the replay booth are doing. The Tv showed the replay 2-3 time before the next play. Were they eating nachos and couldnt find the remote?

Exactly. In college, they review every play in the booth.

I agree with many of your observations.

Clearly Nassib made a bad throw on the INT.

I thought that DS got the first down on the fourth and one with ease - really disagreed with the spot.
I thought David Stevens should have stretched for that pass - he should have caught it.

I'm feeling better about the game after two days.

We are 2-0 for the first time in years.

I think it's unlikely that a TE is going to lay out for an overthrown ball.

It isn't often I read commentary on a game and agree with all or even most of what people write, but man this post is spot on. Me and my game watching partner quoted a great deal of this post during the game. Specifically, Baily not seeing holes-wide holes- if he were to peek to the outside, and Rhode Island's jump on our offensive snaps was unreal. We are tipping something off.

They may have well been standing around waiting for the defensive play call from the sideline as well but they clearly werent set. Rhody made a good play to quick snap it as anything to avoid a review was all they wanted. What they got was obviously quite a bit better.

The Nassib throw was there but had to be perfect. You're right was a bad throw but I like the aggressive intent. Just the timing of forcing that in the 1st quarter and 99% sure it wasnt 3rd down would have me wish for the throw away. Second half trailing and/on 3rd down, I say fire away.

Hopefully will find time to see what happened in the 2nd half this week, but watching the replay i feel alot better than following the gamecast updates. At least what we've been experiencing mistake wise are things that can be corrected. Much different then the years of being physically overmatched all over the field.

agree 100%, we are tipping our hand and we can fix that for sure, this happened last year at some point as well, I think versus Rutgers

A pass catching specialist, hard working, former walk on TE, I'd like to at least see the attempt. I think it was a pretty good pass and looked like Stevens stumbled a bit probably preventing a dive or him getting his hands on it in stride. Funny how that happens when youre wide open, you rarely see guys trip up in traffic but when you have time to think rather than just do sometimes your mind talks your body out thinking it possible.

If thats Chew or Lemon out there they run right under it untouched for the TD but we saw Nassib make the adjustment later and take a bit of steam off on the deep Chew connection. he got tackled at the 4 but better than the overthrow.

I'm optimistic we'll see a somewhat different and consequently our best gameplan of the year so far this week. The only reason I can see us not using Bailey on screens to counter aggressive defenses is so that USC wouldnt have film on it. We've been working on the USC gameplan since preseason so I'm anxious to see what we can do vs a team we actually have some current film on.

I thought our defense looked confused lining up..especially when RI went to a quick(er) snap. The defense seems to be unsure of their alignments a little more than I would like. The DB's..and at times the LB's.

This has been a reaccuring theme the last few years with players getting the calls from the sideline. It's a cluster**** at times watching guys get the signs then run around presnap to get into position. Hoping to see less of that when players have a bit more experience especially the DBs who have a long run presnap to get into position.
