Fine defamation case now in federal court

I know nothing about legal dealings, but I thought this was interesting:

Fine, 67, has also filed additional notices discontinuing legal action against co-defendants named in the original summons, including reporter Mark Schwarz, producer Arthur Berko and the Walt Disney Company and Hearst Corporation.
ESPN, Inc., will be the sole defendant as the case progresses in federal court.

Definitely not a lawyer, but by dropping Schwarz & Berko, does that make it more likely they get put on the stand?

I hope so. Otherwise, I am disappointed that the Schwarz case was dropped.
