Fire George McDonald

I also don't see how it is McDonald's fault that we drop toichdown passes or overthrow basic sideline throws. Or call time outs we don't have.

The play selection is bizarre but if his players just delivered on the plays he DOES call then he would look a lot better. He is not a top notch OC but I won't call for his head until we can see his players do some of the basic things correctly.

Yeah, it has nothing to do with the kids in this thread.

I've always been a guy who said "the coaches aren't the ones out there throwing the passes and dropping the completions and missing blocks" but honestly, the coaches have a responsibility to put the players in a position to succeed. That is their entire freaking job. And our coaches just aren't cutting it in that regard right now, particularly McDonald.
my bad. i brought that in from another thread.

You might be right. Doug leaving was bad enough, but leaving when he did ***** us. Scott winning a bowl last year placated us.

That's free-market capitalism. Blaming a guy who left is nowhere near the right direction to put deserved venom towards.

I hope you're right. A lot of plays were on the players, but the 1st (!!!) safety was on him. Unacceptable. I want to be proven wrong, but we might not win a game the rest of the year.

Don't blame Doug. Just wish it wasn't mid January

I've been intentionally ignoring the football forum for 2 weeks since the Maryland loss, but even I, the most steadfast supporter of HCSS there is am realizing I'm witnessing GErg 2.0 right now. This is downright Embarassing.
We have some talent on O and the scheme is just so laughably sophomoric I can't believe it. That pitch to AAM was beyond head scratching. Hunt not knowing how many timeouts... After a timeout... At the end of the half. My goodness this is amateur hour.
I want to love shafer... I do... But he's making it damn hard. Bullough had been great this year FWIW.

Let's also not forget that between the first and second quarter, we had to TAKE A TIME OUT. I'm not sure I've ever seen that. 15:00 minutes left in the second quarter, the quarter hasn't actually started yet...and we had to take a time out. Holy crap, man.

That was a P and D move if I've ever seen one.

That's what I think every time I see time outs from plays getting late to the field or other time outs blown as we get organized. Marrone at least fixed that. This is not a tightly run ship, though.

Can I just say also that it says a lot that when we've got 1st or 2nd and goal from inside the 5, I find myself just hoping we'll get at least a field goal, and every time our opponent has the ball inside the 5, I'm 100% sure they'll score a touchdown on the next play?

Can you imagine another school whered youd get a pass as a coach for the offensive performance weve had the last 3 weeks?

Would it be acceptable at Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Notre Dame, Texas, Etc two have a toss play go for a safety.

For an offense to not have a goal line play with 3 seconds to go and the QB to spike it.

To have a completely inept offense for 3 weeks.

Nowhere else would that be ok . . . it shouldnt be here either. Thats on Gross and Shafer. Either this is big time college football or it isn't.

McDonald said the first safety, a pitch to Adonis Ameen-Moore, was a check by Hunt after reading DE. McDonald took blame for initial call.
It was a check by Hunt, so he's kind of throwing Hunt under the bus. But yeah, it still begs the question - why the hell were we in shotgun backed up at our own 1 yard line?

Agreed.

Not sure Hunt has all his marbles. It's something I've been thinking about for a couple of games now. I don't know if I've ever seen a QB take as much punishment as he does on his runs and take on tacklers as eagerly as he does. It's like a double-whammy: can't be all that clear-headed to begin with to put yourself in those situations and you can't be coming out of those hits in any better condition.

He's just not a sharp QB. Nothing to do with taking hits.

We suffered because we didn't recruit a good QB after McNabb. We're suffering now because we didn't recruit a good QB to replace Nassib.

Louisville already found a suitable replacement for Bridgewater.

We did recruit a good QB, it's just that he was swayed to Virginia Tech, and we didn't have a backup plan.

Seriously, I'll always believe that Mike Vick not coming to Syracuse is as big a reason as any for our rapid decline.

Is it messed up that I want this recruiting class to sign the LOI before firing McDonald? Ugh... I know...

I really feel like somebody decided to call him a good recruiter, and everyone else just followed along. Why is he a good recruiter? What's it based on?

I'll buy it, when I see the results.

After seeing Marrone's first class, I'm not worried about keeping a mediocre recruiting class. I'm so afraid of turning the clock back to 2007.
