Since you guys moved, you've been harder to find. But I went and applied, got approved and want to contribute what I feel matters up front.

For a while, I devalued Cuse fans which was no one's mistake other than my own, Mostly, it was over the morality play during Pitino's sadass summer over his affair. I came away with a worse impression than you deserve.

Reading this board since your move reminded me that many UL fans rate you guys as one of the best fan bases in the BE. I personally enjoy UConn too. Both of you seem as close to unbiased in any analysis of the games themselves as anyone in hoops. I've enjoyed reading your renditions and issues about last night's game - it was actually a terrific ball game, by any criterion. I could not believe how long you guys are, lol. It was like playing against giants who move well :) and Fab Melo now makes me regret your winning that prize. (Although Dieng has a great upside and I thought played well, so he made an excellent consolation prize).
Your biggest strength to me is your transition defense. I mean you pitched a complete shutout as I recall for fast break points. Against us, that's unheard of and it truly decimated one of our team strengths. It was awesome watching your guys get back so entirely - I think Boheim deserves unbelievable reams of credit for this.
Anyway, just saying hello. I think we're destined for one or 2 or 3 more games, myself. By the way, reading the UK interest here, always bear in mind you will be tainted by association with us in any analysis regarding whether you've achieved anything by winning at Yum! Center. Fact is, you played one hell of a game and I would rate your chances against those guys as even or better. Maybe even far better.

Nice, classy post.

One thing on the game last night, we did do a solid job in transition d but I think Pitino did not want to get a track meet with us. Even your full court pressure seemed designed to slow us down from getting into our offense than anything else.

Thanks for the nice post. Good luck to you guys the rest of the way (except in a couple weeks at the dome and possibly in NYC ;))

Pitino has devolved into using pressure at particular spots. One reason for that is obviously how injured we've been up to this point. The standard pressing style after made baskets would never work in a year we have been playing Kuric 39 minutes a game. Now with Blackshear in the mix, and Russ Smith developing into a keeper (last night's game notwithstanding) we may end up pressing again for longer periods.

But bringing the heat with 4-7 minutes left in a game is something we can play well and it can surprise and shock other teams at important times. It basically won the game for us at WVU.

UL's press has about 215 different incarnations. We even have names for them. The press we played last night was to bother you, slow it down and maybe tire you out. We didn't play the Red or White presses because the game was too close and would be won elsewhere.

Appreciate the analysis. It was a good game. Either team could have won. Great defense. Offense...not so much. Let's hope we both score a few more points in our games the rest of the season.

I don't know if the rematch in the Dome will be close, but the crowd will be a large one. Definitely over 30K. Probably in the range of 33K. Looks like we are going to end up finishing second to UK in attendance again, but only by a couple of hundred fans. Wait until next year. Nice job finishing 3rd. You guys have a great fanbase. Impressed by the numbers that travel to NYC for the BET.

Hope we can play again from time to time in our new conferences.

Classy post, but I think your sudden respect for Syracuse is partly a result of you wanting us to beat Kentucky in the tournament. :)

We actually gave up a huge transition 3 to Smith.

Had guys back but they all clustered and lost him.

Ha ha. Not really. Let's let Marquette take care of them and worry about someone difficult. :D

We have been playing very well all year on the defensive end, but our transition defense fell asleep a number of times in our last game against UConn and JB got on the boys a bit...so they picked it up this time out.

One other thing...
looks to me like Behanan (sp?) is going to be an absolute stud. He's already a great rebounder and just gets off his feet so quickly and finishes well - once he develops his offensive game a little more, look out. Haven't seen enough of Blackshear yet, but from all accounts he'll be the real deal once fully healthy and the rust shaken off.

I think Louisville has tremendous upside come tourney time. They are just getting healthy and Dieng is getting better. Team could make a decent run.

yep, not sure if they can do it with Siva at the point though.

Don't confused unbiased opinion with whiney pessimism. For proof, we already have a thread foreboding our likely demise to Rutgers this weekend.

As long as there is one here, let me note that I'm surprised there hasn't been more grousing from Card fans about the NBA continuation that Fab was gifted in the 2nd half. Should have been two shots; instead ended up being a 3 point play. That could have been the difference in the ball game right there.

I know they're grousing about it over on their board.

Welcome aboard, senore...glad you finally found us! ;)
Was just wondering how the "Fire Pitino" crowd is dealing with your bounce back success?
Earlier this season I couldn't believe how loud those folks were on your board, mostly just a
by-product of PayPalCal's success at UK.
As I said at the time "Pitino's teams usually get better"- & it seems like you have.
See u soon for Rd II!

Hey, Doc, nice to see ya again. :)

We go through the "Far Patiner" threads every year. It's a ritual. We maintain many Denny Crum loyalists whose idea of the following coach was never an ex-UK coach. And it's that simple. They work that simpleassed logic even during the summer. And, for real, the other contingent are obsessed with Cal's s "successes" at UK. Bear in mind, Louisville is infested with UK loyalists, so many of our fans work side by side with the goober factor daily. For the record, they can be every bit as obnoxious as they seem online.

Yup - Pitino's teams always rev up in February. This year, it could even be a bit of a Perfect Storm, too, as Blackshear enters the rotation, Behanen and Dieng develop and Siva tries conquering his bizarre set of demons. His 3rd foul prolly cost us the game. He was outscoring your entire team at one point. For the life of me, I can't understand how a kid like that can miss his obvious value and the need for just a little self-preser - frikking - vation.

Otherwise, I'm somewhat bullish on our future but I worry about nerves and character, such as what I just spoke of. We've been hitting FT's well - then this.

Heck, even UL fans realize Jim Burr was reffing. Why ask why? is the point. His mysteries make the Big East what it is. He gives and takes like a drunk 2 buck whore.

Thanks.

Always like to hear from other teams fans, when they come in peace and bring logical discussion. When we play you guys I always dread it cause of your record against us, and I DREAD your full court press, though it isnt what it was last year.
And I never expected Dieng to be that good, when I first say him I never expected that much from him, be has proved his worth to you guys.

Tell your other Ville friends that they are more than welcomed to join in on discussion...

Behannan is a beast down there...he has great upside, and I think someone compared him to Blair last night...not far off

welcome aboard...and thank you for good insight and compliments. Louisville played very well and your coach always gives JB fits...but there is a connection there that I hope will remain as we change conferences and hopefully you do too.

Chris Smith played fairly well, Russ, not so much. And I was positive Russ was going to go off on us. Louisville always has hit type of player that kills us. Not last night at least.

He compared himself to Blair, sort of/kind of, by saying a mantra Blair gave him is his driving force , "Pretend the ball is money,. real cash money, and go and get it!"
Fantasy time here, could you imagine Behannan with us , and having KJo, CJ and him in a 3 man rotation. Not to sound greedy, because 26-1 is a "red one" short of perfect. but he is the type of player we need to be a Perfect team.

I said this in another topic yesterday, but you guys have great fans. I can't believe this is only our 7th season in the same conference together because Louisville is such a perfect fit for the Big East, you should have been added 30 years ago. Sharing your state with Kentucky has to be painful.

I have met some great Louisville fans at the BET, and hope to meet some more this year.

Your athletic department deserves more than the Big East and I look forward to seeing Louisville kick Kansas's ass when you're in the Big 12.
