Just saw that Firstrowsports.tv is gone... another amazing site crushed by the US government (bitjunkie went last week, megaUpload before that). God Bless the American Dream (of owning a large corporating, getting away with anything you want, and being able to stick the government in order to crush the small guy)

As someone who relied on this quite often, this pi$$es me off.

Dude it was nice to have access to those streams, but they are stealing them from the companies that pay to broadcast them. Why should ESPN or CBS or TWSports pay for the rights to broadcast the games (payment streams which support our programs) and pay the production costs to put them on the air - if they can be stolen and distributed for free.

These places allowed people to share stolen content. How about the American dream for that guy looking to make a buck on his music? Where's the pity for him?

Wow...you sound like a Republican.

That's like saying the guy selling stolen merchandise off his truck is being crushed by the man when he's arrested.

Downloading music and movies that you don't pay for, and that the copyright owner doesn't approve of, is stealing.

Yeah, noticed that last week with the dreaded banner "Seized by Homeland Security" in it's place. But Al, I have some good news for you---they have opened back up for business in Europe, under Firstrowsports.eu

With Time Warner boning us with MSG, this site has been a lifesaver for Knick games (especially lately, with the new Linsanity craze...)

ahh, that was my last shot at being able to watch games at the office.. The Europe site is blocked at work.. I guess its back to making up appts to get home in time for the game lol

Stealing? Maybe. But for me it was about being able to get something that was not available for sale to my area. I was more than willing to buy it, but no one was willing to sell it. I found someone willing to give it away for free. Does that make me bad? I feel a media rant coming on so I'd better go.

Just to be clear, I didn't say the viewers were stealing it. I have mixed feeling on this front. I know that if I came across a bank robbery and the perpetrator threw the money in the air into a crowd to avoid being caught I probably wouldn't be comfortable making a claim that I should be able to keep and not return as much of the the money as I could scoop up.
On the other hand, its out there and available for free...why shouldn't we be able to watch it?

That said, the guy who is intercepting the feed and making it available to the masses for free is very clearly stealing it and interfering with the ability of the company that owns the distribution rights to make its living.

Is it truly not available to you or just not available in a form that you are willing to pay for? I am not in the TW market area and don't get SNY, but with the Full Court Package have only missed a couple of games all season - and I suppose I could have picked those up on All Access.

I don't feel guilty when I want to watch a european soccer game and there isn't one outlet in the entire US that covers the game. What other option does one have(besides not watching. obviously.)?

I do get SNY so only had to use firstrow for the couple games that were on espn3 and not SNY. ESPN3 is not available on any of the internet providers in Cincinnati. I mostly used it for blacked out Bengals games. But don't get me started on the NFL blackouts. I wasn't going to the game regardless of whether it was on TV or not or whether I could watch it on the internet. I wasn't going because I didn't feel spending $400 to go to the Bengals game. The Bengals sold out every game for over 20 years. Then they simultaneously stink and build a bigger stadium. NFL fans shouldn't be penalized because the team owner builds a stadium too big for his market. Ooops...I started on the NFL sorry!

three things about "piracy":

1) People don't realize that most people 'pirating' anything are almost never likely to view it otherwise in the current system.
2) The oft 'pirated' mediums are the only types that you don't know what you're getting before you pay for it. You pay to see a movie and it sucks horribly? You never get your money back.
3) the big corporate media whores have been clinging to an ancient old business model for decades. There should have been a la carte internet-TV by now, but Big Media has been using government to preserve an outdated business model stifling any advances in the delivery of their shows/movies/sports forcing people to look for 'pirating' methods.

The #1 most pirated shows are HBO shows. Why? because for some reason Big Media can't figure out how to (or don't want to) provide people the HBO service without requiring a ludicrously overpriced cable/sat. subscription first. Give me ESPN and HBO and nothing else and I'd be happy... this shouldn't cost me any more than $20-30 a month ... but instead I have to get a huge cable subscription and then pay a premium for HBO running me over $150/month. The system is broken, yet they refuse to change it. You call it piracy, I call it protesting.

Protesting would be refusing to pay the price and going without. Gas is $3.50 per gallon. I feel like that price is too damn high and should be cheaper, but I don't go find the pipeline from the refinery and splice into so I can help myself and not have to pay the high price. ESPN is probably charging your distributor (cable or satellite) $4.50 per subscriber to carry its flagship station and a $1 or $2 additional for the other stations. Most sports fans would sign up for that over the cost of the full basic cable that includes all of those stations. The problem is that if ESPN isn't getting that fee for each of the distributor's subscribers the fee would go up several times over and the you wouldn't get it at an a la carte rate that is anywhere near that.

If enough people were unhappy with the cable and satellite distribution model it would change. Reality is that most of us look at our cable bill and think its too damn high, but then refuse to live without it long enough to bring about a change.

My info is pretty outdated, but I'd guess it's pretty similar today... the "guy looking to make a buck on his music" makes his money through concerts. It's why they tour and tour and tour. Record labels make the money on music sales. I remember when Metalica was up in arms about their music being shared, b/c they were losing out on money, and it was reported that they got 10 cents per album/cd sold - which was really high compared to others. I'm guessing this is also why so many artists start their own labels (and then become even richer).

And I really don't feel bad if some billion dollar tv company doesn't get my $68 for some package every month b/c I wanted to watch 5 games and nothing else on that package. (and no I don't march in Occupy!)

Lastly - as stated above - I don't have any other options to view most of the games where I live now.

Thanks!! just checked it here and I'm all set!!

Fight the power and live without cable. It's a $100+ per month luxary that I live without. Same with home internet access.

Go to games or go to a sports bar... go to a library or any other wifi hotspot... unplug and talk to family and friends or read a book... go live a life instead of watching reality TV shows... There's too many mind numbing options that keep us from figuring out ways to beat the system. It's sterilization of cognitive thought by design and its become an epidemic as a result.

Agreed for most.

But UFC and Boxing...sometimes people decide to just stream it and not drop the $50 because of the unpredictability of the sport.

Saw this about a month ago ...

.C.C. May Move to End N..L. Blackouts

The problem I have with the NFL is that there is no option for out-of-market fans to watch their team play unless they subscribe to DirecTV. I cannot get a signal at my house, therefore I can't get DirecTV. My only recourse is NFL RedZone - which I have, but sadly, since the Browns don't score very frequently, I don't get to see much of them. I would probably pay for NFL Sunday Ticket if they made it available via FiosTv or the internet just like I pay a subscription for MLB.com to watch Indians' games.

If I want to watch the Browns in my home, my only alternative is to view them over an illegal connection, which I have refrained from doing.

If these sites are out there, go ahead and use them. Just know that you are stealing content.

My point is that it's hypocritical for someone to bemoan the US Government when they shut these sites down for sharing stolen content.

If you have a PS3, the Sunday Ticket is available through that now. Same price as DirecTV I believe. No idea how high quality the streaming is, but it's an option.

no, you are actually correct. The capability exists for each of us to see every game on every modern device. The fact that it is not offered is BS.
