the longest tenured coach in NCAA is gone. and your long time role has been assistant/recruiter without much punch during game time and overall mr. nice guy to your players when the coach is being ...well himself.. very important when practice rolls around to set your regiment and conditioning expectations , lay down the program tenets that if violated will lead to expulsion of anybody regardless of ability . and to set a clear tone of what you expect from each and every player to make this program exceptional once again.

I think that kind of stuff started in the spring, tbh.

It’ll be fascinating to see how Autry manages the team. Jim had a loose leash, but the program was in a better place for most of that time. Will Red be more strict?

Can’t Red do it in a nice way? Maybe have some laughs?

As cool as he is he has been structured and strict. The amount of “practices” and coaches meetings compared to JB during summer time is not even a comparison. JB expected nothing during summer from anyone and this is the exact opposite scenario so far

Had a good chat with my colleague I speak with from time to time who played at UVA and has one girl who plays in Australia and another playing D1 ball ( his oldest had a couple years in WNBA too). He stays in touch with many older teammates and fellow acc foes.

One point he made that I think is important is that there is still very much a vacuum to be filled of coaches who can really fill that space of being able to bridge old school and new school to sustain long term success. He mentioned the early possibilities so far with Hurley and Scheyer and has heard good things around Tang and to some extent Cooley. He said he thinks Red has a great shot to succeed in being that type of coach. Also obviously there are others out there just making the example.

He is a DC guy who has chatted with some of our former guys too and has heard the same sentiment from them with some trash talk that Cuse is gonna be back in business quickly. All talk and chatter of course but I think his point is valid- this new normal it's all about who can operate in both worlds effectively putting in the work to build the relationships but also install discipline and a team approach when everything is so I individualized.

Can't wait to see the product.

No shooting. No scrimmaging. All dribbling through chairs, passing drills working on popping it - get rid of the ball, and the zig zag head on the ball drill. 4 passes! If you’ve got a problem with it, get out.

You don't have to be a to be a winner or for that matter a Mr. Nice Guy. You da boss...be the boss!

?? JB always had summer workouts usually starting the beginning of July when summer classes started. Weight training, running, drills, scrimmaging, etc. June was for decompressing, visiting family, rehabbing injuries, etc. Although many players would stick around in June too.

I've heard rumors through anonymous program insiders that Autry is pro-seat belt.
