Florida must really want McElwain

Don't understand why CSU negotiated down the buyout. Makes no sense to me.
The guy doesn't want to stay why force him to stay. CSU is still getting 7 million dollars just in 3 installments. McElwain is going to pay 2 million, Florida will pay 3 million, and CSU will get 2 million to play in Gainesville.

They just did the coach right and got fair value.

Barf. Somebody at school needs to be adult and say enough. RT @darrenrovell: $13,300,000: Amt Florida will pay for Muschamp/McElwain buyouts

That's more than our IPF costs and it's basically thrown away on 1 coach that didn't work out and a new coach that still might not work out.

We don't spend that much on permanent structures on Campus...kinda puts things in perspective.

They are taking 500K less than the buyout, and the rest is spread out up to 6 years. This is Florida, they are not going to walk away because of a couple of million. Heck, if McElwain wants to leave so bad, he's going to get 3.5 a year, he can chip in a lot more than 2 mil. if he wants out. Still think it was bad negotiating by CSU to take less. Why have these contracts if you don't stand by them. CSU looks weak.

If CSU took a hardline stance, how would that help them attract their next coach? To me, it's a great pitch for their AD to say to the next HC "Hey if you come work for us and a bigger school wants you, we're going to work to make it right for you and the school". How many years of their next HC's salary are going to be paid by this buyout- at least 3 right?

My question is why is this such a high buyout? I could see for a p5 but at Colorado State? That's a lot of bread.

That's insane...and remember can't pay players or else you have to cut other sports.

What is going to kill the sport is people thinking that Texas, UF, Bama, ND are the norm.

They aren't.

I think it'll kill the other non revenue sports before it touches football.

maybe they're thinking about future up and comers - want to look reasonable to guys who might hope to make it to the big time

i am glad SU is not going too crazy in the arms race. i want them to be the successful team that shows you don't have to lose your minds.

I agree, but when the AD at Texas tries to claim that he would have to cut sports, that's annoying.

I wonder if more schools outside the P5 will look to drop to the FCS level to cut costs.

They gave him a 10 year contract. Wanted some leverage i'm guessing.

Eh... that doesnt make much sense.

There was nothing wrong with Michigan when they hired Rich Rod who hada significantly upgraded resume than McElwain.
What does Michigan have to do with anything I said?

Besides, Michigan certainly did have something wrong. There was a great deal of unrest. In Carr's last year they lost to Appalachian State and were 9-4. HS football in the Midwest is going in the opposite direction as Florida as enrollment declines year after year.
Florida has all the talent.

I was comparing coaches. You were saying the Mcelwain has the perfect resume for Fla. I was saying Rich Rod had a twice as good resume for Michigan. Did you really question that post? Im honestly confused.

My point is that no matter the resume, some coaches arent good fits. And sometimes you can't tell that until after the fact. Fla may have hit a home run or maybe they didnt. Not many people really questioned the Grob hire. A LOT more questioned the Marrone hire. It has nothing to do with what's wrong or right with the program.

Who would have ever thought Alabama would have been so bad for so long in the 90's-2000's? Or Miami losing its edge? Or Nebraska? USC? Texas? things happen.
