Balance is the key. You need to be able to do both to be successful. Always have to keep the defense guessing

Absolutely. Not only that but to be able to pass when you are behind or run when you are ahead is crucial to winning those close games.

It didn't occur to you that teams run when they are ahead and pass when they are behind?

Some people shouldn't be allowed to use statistics. ;)

No, never thought of that.

Leach and Kingsbury have 7 wins between them. Dykes is running the ball more this year and is closer to .500, last year they were 1-10.

The SMU team that Jones assembled is 0 for the year.

No doubt McNeil is having a solid year.

You don't see Baylor or WVU on that list.

Brilies has always gotten it, and Holgerson is figuring it out, you can't throw the ball all the time. They took what they needed from Leach and added some common sense.

I'd take being able to do one thing well at this point. Our offense has largely sucked at everything for a decade and counting.

Your defense has to practice. People used to think that you can't run out of the spread because a lot of spread coaches chose not to

TCU is top 10 in passes in the first quarter 79th in the 4th quarter

Baylor is 16th in passes in the first quarter, 109th in the 4th

Even Bama is 32nd in 1st q passes, 74th in 1st q rushes. 52%. Maybe they shouldn't, it's Kiffen after all. I know that's balanced but I think it says something that even bama throws more

Syracuse
91st in 1st quarter passes
65th in Q2
40th in Q3
48th in Q4

Florida State is 7th in the country in first quarter passing play ratio passing 61% of the time

We're 81st in that category

So if you want SU to be balanced, we need to throw more.

I just want to see an entertaining offense. Don't give a crap if its running based like Minnesota/Wisconsin or passed based like Washington State/Texas Tech.

Since 2004, outside of 2012 the offense has been mediocre/terrible on the Hill.

Please give a reason why we should have faith a Scott Shafer led Syracuse offense can finish top 50 in points-per-game.

Here, here. I gave up a few years ago on being upset that we play in a perfectly controlled domed enviornment but don't seek to take advantage of it. At this point, I'd settle for running an offense--ANY offense--well. I don't care what it is, so long as we do it well and score some @#$% points.

You must have me confused with someone who wasn't pointing that the offense was in trouble in September and got ripped for it.

I'm not defending what has happened this year in the least.

has anyone heard any interviews with lester or shafer about the direction they're heading next year?

they should put something on the syracuse youtube account or something. they need to start selling

there was one article with a line about 12 personnel, that's about it

You and I lock horns but sometimes agree. I wasn't signaling you out with my post. I was signaling out the defenders of HCSS and his offensive staff.

Pretty sure they're going to be hardnosed.

And like, work really, really hard.

And recruit kids no one wants and make 'em super awesomer.

So when did it cross over from having an "agenda" to being okay to pile on?

Watch Shafer's post game. He skewers the reporter for asking the question. (I think rightly - you don't ask big picture questions after a loss like that.)

Someone should ask Lester at his press availability this week, though.

Slight hijack, but the questions I want asked (in some form) are, "Why did we have so many injuries this year?" and "What do you plan to do to ensure that it does not happen again next year?" I want to hear from Shafer's mouth whether he thinks it is purely random, or the result of something that is within their power to control.
