Yesterday a friend and I spent the day in Durham before going to a concert downtown. We drove to Duke's campus to check it out, and stumbled upon Cameron Indoor Stadium. We walked into the main entrance, and walked around the corner to see if there were any of the trophies right inside the main hall. Instead, we were greeted by the court. We walked inside and were allowed to walk right onto the court and check out the facility. Even as a Syracuse diehard, it was an incredibly cool experience. Gives an awesome feel for the environment I've seen so many times on TV. I'm not sure if it is always as accessible as it was on a Monday afternoon at 1:30, but if you get the chance to check out Cameron Indoor I'd recommend it.

Cool pics. But I just hate this place though.

Jordan High School in Durham also has a cool gym. I mean, while we are on the topic of high school gyms and all. Just have to make sure there isn't a dodgeball tournament going on when you plan your visit.

cool pics... and sounds like a great time... I hope you took the opportunity to flop on the court! ;)

In Durham flopping requires a union card. The locals call it a Woodburn ticket.

JUST KIDDING dookies...we get accused of it all the time too you know. :)

...so you actually went on the court...Obviously you got a couple of Technical Fouls and then had to leave the building? ;)

I was lucky to have a friend in grad school there when I was young and could easily travel. He snuck me into games two years in a row (had to use a friend's ID, neither of which looked like me). It was the brand, Williams, battier, Langdon teams. Unbelievable experience. I know we have a vested interest in hating them now, but I was definitely a fan for a while after that.

I did the same thing when my son was looking at colleges. We made the southern trip to see UNC, Duke,
Richmond, UVA.

Walked right past kzychevskiyzzyz-ville and into Cameron indoor. It is amazingly small. I think the carrier dome is way cooler honestly. Not kidding.

Whoa...I never thought I would see my High School being talked about on these forums. I moved from Poughkeepsie to Durham in 2008 and graduated from JHS in 2012. Everyone in Durham (I think) has to graduate in Cameron...I felt like a traitor for about ~2 hours but it was worth it. Duke is very lenient about letting people into Cameron and like OP said, if you're ever in Durham you all should check it out.

I'll be in Durham this weekend but it is Bull City Brewery for me. No offense to Cameron but they don't meet my most basic needs.

One thing Duke has going for it: it is a "wet" campus, meaning alcohol consumption is allowed there. Try to drink a beer on-campus at UNC or NC State and you will likely have ALE and police coming out of the woodwork to cite you and throw you out of school. Duke almost encourages great parties, the way their university is set up.

That's true. Couple of years ago I just walked in and looked around. They were beginning to set it up to induct K into their HOF later that night.

Funny history note...J.J. Reddick was escorted off the UNC campus once for bringing a cooler of beer to a Heels baseball game..and we were not playing dook. ;)

Went to Cameron yesterday on your advice. Had been inside once before, but couldn't actually walk into the seating section as the team was practicing behind curtains.

Yesterday was admittedly pretty cool. The lights were off, but had free run of the place. Got to walk on center court.. sit on the team benches.. even climb up to the press box where the tv/radio guys sit... wow is it tight up there... and only accessed by a bunk bed-type ladder!

Despite our hatred for Duke... I'd still recommend a visit for anyone... parking is $1/hour... far cheaper than any ticket!!
