Welcome to Scrabble Day!

Scrabble Day celebrates the popular board game. It's been popular around the world ever since. People young and old enjoy this game.

Scrabble was created in 1938 by Alfred Mosher Butts. It is sold by Hasbro, Inc.

By far the best way to celebrate Scrabble Day is with Oxyphenbutazone.

That's right, Oxyphenbutazone is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug; you already knew that; but it's also the word that, in a single play, can give the highest possible score on a Scrabble board. The chances of it ever coming up are similar to the chances of winning this week's lottery, as you'd need to join all seven of your tiles with eight already on the board across three triple word scores. Still, it would be worth waiting for, scoring 1,778 points. You'd almost certainly win the game with that.

There's no need to chase rainbows though; everyone loves Scrabble, so why not spend Scrabble Day with someone you like, in a friendly battle of words and wits?

Hey Hey Hey! Syracuse Cracks 4-Star PF Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree's Top 8 (DO; Fortier)

Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree, a 6-foot-8 Class of 2017 big man, listed Syracuse as one of his top choices, according to Pat Lawless of MADE Hoops.

Cosby-Roundtree’s list also includes Atlantic Coast Conference foe Miami and national champion Villanova, as well as Seton Hall, Virginia Commonwealth, Providence, Xavier and Temple.

The Neumann-Goretti (Pennsylvania) High School product is listed on ESPN.com as a center, but on 247Sports.com and At their request, this network is being blocked from this site. as a power forward. He is listed between 195 and 210 pounds on various recruiting sites as well.

With the recent transfers of sophomore guard Kaleb Joseph and junior forward Chinonso Obokoh, Syracuse now has three available scholarships heading into the 2016-17 season.

The Orange has offers out to two Class of 2016 big men Taurean Thompson and Cheickna Dembele. Cosby-Roundtree was Syracuse’s eighth Class of 2017 offer, fourth in the frontcourt.

If Cosby-Roundtree were to commit to the Orange, barring any redshirts, transfers or early departures for the NBA Draft, he’d join a frontcourt of then-junior forwards Tyler Lydon and Matthew Moyer as well as then-junior center, Providence transfer Paschal Chukwu. Tyler Roberson and Dajuan Coleman are expected to use their last year of eligibility next season.

Pearl Washington: An Inspiration On and Off the Court (TNIAAM; Wall)

This weekend's news about Syracuse legend Pearl Washington has touched a lot of Syracuse fans. For a younger generation, you might not have had the opportunity to see the Pearl play, so Sean and John thought an "older person's" perspective might be welcomed. I know that many of our commenters probably saw Pearl play in the Dome, of which I am incredibly jealous.

I grew up in New England in the 80s and got to witness the growth of Big East basketball. One of those early memories was a Saturday game on the USA Network between the Syracuse Orange and Boston College Eagles. You might remember seeing this video a few times (and yes that's Al Albert on the call for USA)

While this shot served as my introduction to Pearl, the fact is that he had been the player people went out of their way to see in New York City. As this piece by Bobbito Garcia from Slam Magazine reminds us, it wasn't that long ago that basketball legends made their name on the playgrounds, inspiring stories that truly are the stuff of legends,

"Pearl showed up to King Towers on a motorcycle with a fly-ass girl on the back," recalled Arnold "A Train" Bernard, who was inspired as a kid by Washington. "He drove right to half court, parked it, dropped 55 points, then left. That’s some real legend . I wanted to be just like him!"

Historic 77-Year-Old Utica Club Sign Replaced at Matt Brewing Co. (photo gallery; PS; Cazentre)

One by one, the letters that have towered over the .X. Matt Brewing Co. and its surrounding West End Utica neighborhood since 1939 came down Tuesday.

The U. The T. The I. The C. The A. The letters that spell CLUB and more.

Matt Brewing officials reluctantly announced last week they would replace the doubled-sided bulb-lit electrical sign that had marked the brewery as the home of Utica Club beer for 77 years. Work began Tuesday.

An even though the brewery is better known today as the home of the craft beer line Saranac, they decided to stick with "Utica Club" on the modern LED-lit sign they will erect on top of the brewery this summer.

"Saranac is our key brand," brewery chairman Nick Matt said at a press conference last week. "But Utica Club, from the standpoint of what this district is (the Brewery District neighborhood), and what this brewery stands for in Utica, we thought this was appropriate."

"This is kind of an iconoclastic part of Utica," Matt said. Utica Club was the brewery's main brand until the 1980s, but now takes a back seat in production volume to Saranac.
