Welcome to Magna Carta Day!
Following a revolt by the English nobility against his rule, King John puts his royal seal on the Magna Carta, or “Great Charter.” The document, essentially a peace treaty between John and his barons, guaranteed that the king would respect feudal rights and privileges, uphold the freedom of the church, and maintain the nation’s laws. Although more a reactionary than a progressive document in its day, the Magna Carta was seen as a cornerstone in the development of democratic England by later generations.

Syracuse Basketball: Malachi Richardson Schedules Three More NBA Workouts This Week (TNIAAM; Orsenigo)
With the NBA Draft a little over a week away, the former Syracuse star freshman continues to fill up his workout schedule for NBA teams.
In exactly nine days, Malachi Richardson will experience the biggest night of his young life when he waits for his name to be called in the 2016 NBA Draft.
In the meantime, the former Syracuse Orange is keeping himself busy with preparation, looking to convince teams to take him with their first round pick.
Back at the beginning of June, Malachi's agent, Stephen Pina of ASM Sports, announced that Mali would be working out for six NBA teams.
Well, according to his agent in an article by Mike Waters of Syracuse.com, Malachi will work out for three more teams this week. He will work out for the Chicago Bulls today, the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday and the Toronto Raptors on Sunday.

Richardson Could Potentially Prove Boeheim Wrong - TU (todaysu.com; Holcomb)
Oh, how things can change so quickly in the world of sports.
Syracuse forward Malachi Richardson didn’t show up on any mock drafts throughout the entire season and even after helping the Orange advance to the Final Four, he didn’t appear on Chad Ford’s radar at ESPN until the end of April. Much to the chagrin of coach Jim Boeheim, the early departed forward now appears to potentially going in the top 10.
In the first of several scheduled workouts last week, Richardson reportedly wowed NBA executives, according to Syracuse.com. He was one of several clients of Andy Miller’s ASM Sports to participate in the agency’s pro day out in Las Vegas on Tuesday, June 7.
During that workout, the former Syracuse basketball forward went 13-for-15 from the 3-point line and the rest of the session went so well, Richardson and his agent cancelled all his other workouts because the forward couldn’t possibly boost his stock any further.
However, Syracuse.com reports that wasn’t true, but canceling them was on the table.
“There was some consideration,” Richardson’s agent, Stephen Pina of ASM Sports, said Friday. “We wound up deciding against it. This draft is unique. There are so many moving parts to this draft. Teams have multiple picks. Other teams are trying to move up. We’re trying to figure out which teams are keeping their picks and which teams might be moving their picks.”

Wingspan, increasingly crucial in today’s NBA, is draft watchword (commercialappeal.com; Edmiston)
This year’s NBA Finals have been full of amazing performances, yet there’s one smaller moment that stands out for me: Golden State Warriors backup point guard Shaun Livingston, in Game 1, pulling up for a midrange jump shot over contesting Cleveland Cavaliers big man Tristan Thompson. Seemingly not a major moment, but look closer.
Livingston rises off the dribble to shoot. Thompson contests aggressively and in a way that would normally be effective. But Livingston is too long. His shot just goes right over Thompson’s outstretched hand and through the net. Livingston’s height (6-7) and his length (nearly 7-foot wingspan) made that shot literally unblockable.
Wingspan is crucial in today’s NBA. I prefer to measure wingspan as a plus-minus related to a player’s height — for example, a 6-6 player with a 6-9 wingspan would be a plus-3 — so that it’s easier to get an idea of just how much extra length a player has than you might otherwise expect. For the average human being, wingspan is roughly equal to height. For an NBA player, that’s not quite true. According to DraftExpress, which keeps a meticulous database of player measurements going back two decades, the average NBA player’s wingspan is approximately plus-4.

Take Malachi Richardson, the former Syracuse wing who worked out for the Grizzlies recently. With a plus-7 wingspan, he’s got incredible length. He also happens to have posted one of the lowest two-point field goal percentages (39 percent) of any potential draftee in the last 30 years, per DraftExpress. Only three other players were drafted after putting up a shooting exhibition that poor, and two of them — ominously — happened to be selected by the Grizzlies: Josh Selby, who’s playing overseas now after being selected in 2011, and Andrew Harrison, selected last year, who played the entire season for the Iowa Energy.

How Gerry McNamara helped a creative Chiefs' employee propose to his girlfriend (video) (PS; video; Ditota)
Kelliann Needham had no idea what lurked inside the patient, creative mind of her longtime boyfriend.
She was summoned on May 28 to her parents' home in Eastwood, with the ostensible excuse of helping with her younger sister's wedding plans. A Gerry McNamara fan since she was an impressionable early teen, Needham paused her sisterly duties when her dad proposed showing her a purported new highlight reel of McNamara's Syracuse basketball days.
For the girl who met McNamara in 2003 and still covets a framed, autographed photo of that post-national title encounter, the alleged recording provided a legitimate excuse to join her dad in the living room. Needham once accompanied her boyfriend, Anthony Cianchetta, on a visit to the University of Scranton, where he eventually enrolled, just to inspect the place McNamara grew up.

Syracuse native Michaela Watkins, Syracuse University grad Reid Scott
2016 Emmys: Actors from Syracuse, SU get votes for best comedic performance (PS; Herbert)
Two actors with Central New York ties are getting buzz for the upcoming 2016 Emmy Award nominations.
Entertainment Tonight said Tuesday it's voting for Syracuse native Michaela Watkins and Syracuse University alumnus Reid Scott for their outstanding comedic performances this year. Watkins stars on Hulu original series "Casual," a comedy about a divorced mother navigating modern dating; Scott plays political adviser Dan Egan on HBO's "Veep."
"Here [on 'Casual'], I feel like I'm bringing every emotion, every life experience, every feeling I've ever had to everything," Watkins, a former "SNL" cast member who was born in Syracuse and raised in DeWitt until she was 15, told ET. "It's more leveled and it's more layered and it just feels more exciting, for those reasons."
Scott's character on "Veep" was fired from Vice President Selina Meyer's (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) staff, but continued to grow on the series in a number of other roles, including attempts to become a TV commentator, working as a bagman like Gary (Tony Hale) and working on a campaign for his rival Jonah (Timothy Simons).
