Welcome to National Dress Like a Dork Day!

How much fun is this?! While some of us don’t need a national holiday to dress like a dork, because it just comes natural, others may need a little help celebrating today. Below are some tips on how to dress like a dork!

How to Dress Like a Dork

Dressing like a dork is pretty simple. All you need to do is slick back your hair, get out the plaid polyester pants, hideous shirt, suspenders, white knee socks or mismatched argyle socks and your favorite dickey. Add ginormous rimmed glasses with a bit of masking tape, tuck in the shirt, wrap the fanny pack around your fanny and you are good to go!

College basketball: 32 bold predictions for 2016-17 season, Part II (ncaa.com; Boozell)

...
10. Andrew White outperforms Malachi Richardson at Syracuse, and it's not close

Richardson was a first-round NBA draft pick, and he played a huge role in Syracuse making the Final Four last season. Even so, the Orange upgraded their small forward position this offseason.

Here’s a 2015-16 statistical comparison between Richardson and his replacement, Nebraska transfer Andrew White.

2015-16 Richardson vs. White
PLAYER PPG RPG APG FG% 3FG% PER
Malachi Richardson 13.4 4.3 2.4 37.0 35.3 13.8
Andrew White 16.6 5.9 0.6 48.1 41.2 24.2

Frankly, this isn’t even all that bold, but a certain stigma exists among one-and-done college talents. Richardson’s potential and tools were obvious, but by every measure, White is the more productive college basketball player. He also gives Jim Boeheim lineup flexibility; the Orange were excruciatingly thin last season, and though he’s a small forward by trait, White can play anywhere except for center and point guard. He averaged almost six rebounds per game last season, and if Boeheim wants to use him as a small-ball four, White could hold his own defensively and cause serious matchup problems on the other end.

16. The Jamel Artis point guard experience goes better than people think

The 6-foot-7, 220-pound Pittsburgh star is reportedly going to start at point guard this season after manning both forward spots for the Panthers in the past.

You can see the logic here, even if it’s unconventional. Pitt doesn’t have a prototypical floor general it trusts, so instead, Kevin Stallings will try to get his five best players on the floor at the same time.

Artis has served as a point forward in his career, but bringing up the ball each possession is a different animal. Artis dished out 98 assists last season, which is more than plenty of power conference point guards were able to muster in 2015-16, and the peculiar lineup structure could leave opposing defenses in a bind. We’ll see if the senior can be secure enough with the ball in order to capitalize on the mismatches he will create.

Carmelo Anthony praised by NBA GMs; Dion Waiters crushed by magazine (PS; Carlson)

On Tuesday, an anonymous survey of basketball general managers published on NBA.com reaffirmed Carmelo Anthony's spot as one of the NBA's top scorers, even as debate rages about where he stands among its top players.

Anthony was among six players who received a vote from anonymous general managers in a survey about who they would which NBA player they would want to take a game-winning shot.

The list was a who's who of the NBA, with Steph Curry winning the survey with 75.9 percent of the vote and Lebron James taking second with 10.3 percent. Anthony was one of four players who also received votes, joining James Harden, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. General managers were not allowed to vote for their own players.

Anthony ranks 34th on professional basketball's all-time scoring list with 22,497 career points. Elgin Baylor ranks 33rd with 23,149. Anthony passed players like Larry Bird and Clyde Drexler last year.

The 2016-17 season promises to be an interesting one for Anthony and the New York Knicks, who have surrounded Anthony with a fairly competent, but injury-prone, supporting cast that includes Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah and Kristaps Porzingis.

In less exciting, and perhaps less intelligent, analysis the website Complex.com ranked Dion Waiters No. 20 among its worst players in the NBA. Perhaps someone should have warned Miami, which agreed to pay Waiters $5.9 million over the next two years.

Here's Complex's rationale on Waiters:

As Bill Simmons and Zach Lowe like to say, Dion Waiters Island is almost uninhabited at this point. The shooting guard is now on his third team and looking to replace Dwyane Wade in Miami. Yes, Heat fans, that is happening. We're all aware of the issues with Dion—the bad shooting, constantly forgetting that he can pass to other players, the begging for the ball, and all that—and it doesn't seem to be getting any better as time goes on. Sure, Dion can go off on any given night, but those games seem to be few and far between.

What’s next for the six 2017 recruits who visited UK for Big Blue Madness? (kentucky.com; Roberts)

...
Mohamed Bamba
Bamba — a 7-footer from Harlem, N.Y., and the surprise visitor on UK’s Madness guest list — has not publicly confirmed any plans for upcoming visits. Duke is holding its midnight madness event Saturday, but there have been no indications he will attend. A visit to Texas for the weekend of Oct. 28 has also been mentioned, but Bamba has not said whether or not he will make that trip.

The trip to Big Blue Madness was an unofficial visit, and UK is expected to get Bamba back on campus for an official visit sometime during the season. He’s taken only one official visit — to Michigan, last month — so he has four of those remaining. Bamba still appears to be on track for a spring decision.

Quade Green
Green — a 6-1 point guard from Philadelphia — is expected to visit Syracuse for its midnight madness event Friday night and hometown Villanova the following week. It was previously reported that he would visit Duke on Saturday, but that seems unlikely with his planned trip to Syracuse the night before. He’s expected to make a college decision in time to sign early next month.
...
...

Nick Richards
Richards — a 6-11 center from Queens, N.Y. — was visiting UK for the second time in less than a month last weekend. His AAU coach, Todd Quarles, told the Herald-Leader that Richards returned home from the most recent trip Sunday. Quarles accompanied Richards on his official visit to Lexington last month. “It was a great visit,” he said this week. “I think he saw how focused it was and why Cal gets pros to the league.”

Richards was supposed to take an official visit to Arizona earlier this month, but he wanted Quarles to go on that trip and the coach couldn’t make it. Quarles said Monday that they haven’t set a new date for that visit. Richards has also said that he plans to visit Syracuse before making a college decision, though that trip hasn’t been scheduled either. “Not sure. We’ll see how it goes,” Quarles said when asked if Richards would make the Arizona and/or Syracuse visits before deciding.

Quarles said he hopes Richards will take some more recruiting trips so he has something to compare the UK trips to before making a decision. It looks like UK is the favorite in his recruitment, and he might be ready to announce in time for the early signing period — whether he takes those visits or not.

Kanye West is coming to Upstate NY; Rapper announces second leg of tour (PS; Knighton)

Kanye West's "Saint Pablo" tour will make a stop in Albany on December 11.

A week after a mysterious tweet
was sent out and promptly deleted, the downtown venue confirmed that rap superstar Kanye West will make an appearance in Upstate NY this fall. Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 22. Prices will range from $29.50 to $99 and the tickets will be available online at LiveNation.com and Ticketmaster.com or by calling 800-745-3000.

West is currently in the midst of the first leg of his North American tour, which concludes in Las Vegas on October 29. 23 additional dates have been added to the second half of the tour, which begins on November 7 in San Jose, California and ends on New Year's Eve at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The controversial rapper is promoting his seventh studio album, The Life of Pablo, which was released in February of this year. Known as an innovative performer, his current tour features a floating stage that hovers above the crowd and has drawn quite a buzz around the entertainment world.

The Chicago-native is one of the best-selling artists of all time, having sold more than 32 million albums and 100 million digital downloads worldwide. He has won a total of 21 Grammy Awards and was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by TIME Magazine in 2005 and 2015.

Kanye West's wife, Kim Kardashian, recently made headlines when she was held at gunpoint inside of her hotel room in Paris. The reality TV star was "badly shaken but physically unharmed."

The multi-media free throw shooting article about the players' routines [with video demonstrating what each player does] was really cool--very well done.

Hats off to the PS for a very creative format for that piece.

21. Syracuse
Jim Boeheim believes it's one of his best rosters ever. Andrew White was a late add-on after White left Nebraska. Cuse will have an elite sophomore and likely 2017 NBA pick in Tyler Lydon, a good senior PF in Tyler Roberson, a Providence transfer addition in Paschal Chukwu. Freshmen Matthew Moyer, Tyus Battle and Taurean Thompson align a bright future for SU. And this is a team that somehow broke through to the Final Four last season. It has a better chance at getting back this year.

Seems like in most of these ratings they are hesitation to put us too highly because they don't believe in Howard/Gillon as a PG combo.

It was and for me any excuse to see the guys in action before Friday works!

That was really interesting. I despise those slide shows but this one was worth it.

That last sentence defies logic. This year's squad cannot have a better chance of getting to the FF. Maybe a better chance to make it to the final game or win the championship.
