Syracuse sets pair of records for futility with huge loss to St. John’s (sportingnews.com; Dinetto)

The Syracuse basketball team set two records for futility when it lost to St. John’s 93-60 at the Carrier Dome on Wednesday night.

The 33-point loss is the worst home defeat in Jim Boeheim's 41 years as coach of the Orange, and it’s not even close, per Syracuse.com. The previous worst was an 85-61 loss on Feb. 7, 1998, to Seton Hall.

It also marks the first time Syracuse has lost five non-conference games in a regular season under Boeheim. Syracuse is now 7-5 this season.

Making this even more difficult for 'Cuse fans to swallow, St. John’s isn’t exactly a quality college basketball team. The Red Storm (6-7) have just two wins over teams with winning records — 8-5 Binghamton and now Syracuse.

Wednesday night’s victory the third straight for St. John’s against Syracuse, and two of Chris Mullin’s 14 wins in his two years as coach of the Red Storm have been against the Orange.

Chris Mullin will improve to 8-2 in 10 career meetings vs.Jim Boeheim as a player or coach if St. John's hangs on.

Child pornographer, ex-lawyer Martin Rothschild sues prison over inability to urinate
(PS; O'Brien)

Former Syracuse lawyer Martin Rothschild has to use a catheter for the rest of his life because of the medical treatment he received in state prison while serving a sentence for child pornography, he claims in a lawsuit.

Rothschild, 63, is suing the state, claiming guards at Elmira Correctional Facility ignored his pleas for help in 2013 when he suffered symptoms of a urological problem, the suit said. He was urinating frequently and suffered shaking, severe pain, spasms in his abdomen, nausea, weakness and dehydration, the suit said.

Guards ignored his complaints until the next day, when the medical staff attributed his symptoms to Crohn's disease, the suit said.

Rothschild's lawsuit makes these further allegations:

Guards continued to ignore his complaints for two more days, until they took him to the prison infirmary with a hard and distended lower abdomen and frequent incontinence. He was then taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors determined he was retaining urine in his bladder because of a blockage.

Rothschild had developed deverticuli of the bladder because it remained full and distended for so long. He was discharged back to Elmira on a catheter.
