Welcome to Law Day!

The 14th Amendment: Transforming American Democracy

The 2017 theme provides the opportunity to explore the many ways that the Fourteenth Amendment has reshaped American law and society. Through its Citizenship, Due Process and Equal Protection clauses, this transformative amendment advanced the rights of all Americans. It also played a pivotal role in extending the reach of the Bill of Rights to the states. Ratified during Reconstruction a century and a half ago, the Fourteenth Amendment serves as the cornerstone of landmark civil rights legislation, the foundation for numerous federal court decisions protecting fundamental rights, and a source of inspiration for all those who advocate for equal justice under law.

Syracuse Basketball: Tyler Lydon Invited to NBA Draft Combine (itlh.com; Peelman)

Former Syracuse basketball forward Tyler Lydon earned an invite to the NBA Draft combine. Inside The Loud House have the details.

Syracuse Basketball star Tyler Lydon is going to be drafted in the upcoming NBA Draft barring unforeseen circumstances. As a result, he received an invite to the NBA Draft combine to show off his skills in front of scouts, coaches, GM’s and owners, according to Troy Nunes is an Absolute Magician.

In the past some players knew that participating might lower their stock, while other have played to improve their stock. If Lydon gets a guarantee from a team that he’ll be a pick in the lottery or among the first 20 picks, he may not show for the combine. However, if he thinks, he needs to improve his stock, the combine is a good way to do that.

The NBA Draft combine is set for May 9th through the 14th. According to a tweet by Jonathan Givony of Draft Express, he will not be forced to play, just do the usual physical and interviews and such:

Syracuse's Tyler Lydon has been invited to the NBA Combine. Will not required to play, will conduct physical, do team/media interviews, etc

Mayfest a major success despite Vic Mensa cancellation | The NewsHouse | Syracuse University and Community News - S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications (thenewshouse.com; Light)

Headliner Cheat Codes, opener Moxie Raia and last-minute act Tunji Ige made Mayfest 2017 one for the books.

It started with a concerned skepticism:

"There's no way he missed his flight that's just a rumor."

Then some worried, misguided ramblings:

"How did University Union f— this up again?"

Then, finally, the confused, manic outrage:

"What are we gonna do? How will they save Mayfest? I'm coming down!"

Despite the initial concerns that many Syracuse students had when they first discovered Chicago rapper Vic Mensa would not make an appearance at this year's Mayfest a la Fetty Wap, the highly intoxicated student population was blessed with a day so beautiful and so raucous that there wasn't anything that could ruin it.

Although the actual festival didn't start until 1 p.m., Mayfest begins for many Syracuse Students in the infant hours of the morning. By 9 a.m. there were already massive day-drinks taking shape all over campus. The back lots and porches up and down Euclid were filled to capacity with reveling Mayfesters hell-bent on keeping their all-day drunk going. The University was happy to oblige the students in their pursuit of this endeavor; all students above the age of consumption were afforded three free beers courtesy of SU.

"These tuition beers are great," said one student who asked his name not be included in this article, "I've almost forgotten that Vic Mensa wont be performing," the student said.

It was even easier to forget that Mensa wouldn't be performing when the other acts started playing. Little-known New Jersey singer Moxie Raia kicked off the afternoon's entertainment with a short, but surprisingly good, set of original songs of varying subject matter. Although her performance may not have been exceptional, it was at the very least par for the course as far as Mayfest opening acts go.
