Welcome to National Buy a Musical Instrument Day!

(Hint hint Syracuse)

Each year on May 22 we observe National Buy a Musical Instrument Day. The day is all about playing music. If you are a musician, it might be time for a new instrument. Maybe you can learn to play a second or third one. If you have never played an instrument before, National Buy A Musical Instrument Day might be the motivation you need to start.

National Buy a Musical Instrument Day is not just for school-aged children. This observation is for people of all ages. Grandpa can play his ukelele while the grandkids play the drums, trombone, and flute. Together they can all make terrific music!

Last season, some of Syracuse’s biggest offseason acquisitions came via the grad transfer route. Now, the Orange likely has to dip its toe in that market again, and a big target has Syracuse on his wish list. South Florida guard Geno Thorpe told CBS’ Jon Rothstein that he is considering SU along with fellow ACC foe Pitt.

Thorpe’s 6-foot-4 size suggests that he is a smaller shooting guard, but he was put in the point guard role for the Bulls and controlled their offense by leading the team amongst qualified players with 15.1 points per game as well as pacing USF in assists at 4.6.

Some may think that since Thorpe is a Pittsburgh native that the Panthers would have the upper hand in recruiting, however, that was not the case last season with Andrew White, who was being recruited by his hometown Richmond Spiders and ultimately chose SU. Also, this is not Thorpe’s first rodeo on the open market. He initially committed to Penn State where he played two seasons for the Nittany Lions. He then transferred to USF after his sophomore season.

At this point in Thorpe’s career, he has only played on poor to mediocre teams, but Syracuse could be his opportunity to change that. While this year’s team isn’t shaping up to be some type of juggernaut, neither was the 2016 team that landed in the Final Four. As Thorpe’s career winds down, he could look for a program that has a chance to play in the tournament, something Thorpe has yet to do in his career.

As for the fit, the grad transfer checks a lot of the desirable boxes. He knocked down 37 percent of his shots from deep, which is better than any returning SU player. Along with that, his scoring totals would have ranked second on the Orange’s roster. This is particularly big for a team that is losing five of its seven leading scorers.

http://www.dukebasketballreport.com...cuse-recruiting-on-the-decline-acc-basketball (dukebasketballreport.com; King)

Another poorly researched article by a Duke fanboy. He needs to learn what a paragraph is as well.

Syracuse and Jim Boeheim have been connected for an incredibly long time.

The native of Lyons, New York, arrived in Syracuse in 1963 and other than a couple of years playing minor league pro ball, has been there ever since.

He started coaching as an assistant in 1969 and has been head coach since 1976.

For the most part, and certainly since the Big East was formed in 1979, he’s been one of the most iconic faces in college basketball and he’s had no trouble reeling in players.

Lately though it’s been harder.

Duke got in quite late and picked off Jordan Tucker as most readers here will know. However, former Big East rival St. John’s also clubbed Syracuse on the recruiting trail, beating the Orange out for Sid Wilson.

That could be more of a hit in a way. Boheim’s 2-3 zone needs long athletic players to make it work.

The big question though is just how big of a problem his recruiting misses are.

Boeheim is near the end of a long, accomplished career.

If Syracuse really starts to struggle, it’s going to be interesting to see how things go with the fans and the media.

On the other hand though, Boeheim has been an incredibly tenacious competitor. He’s been near the top of the Big East and now the ACC pretty consistently. Counting him out would be foolish.

Keep ESPN Reporter Holly Rowe in your prayers as her cancer has returned and is spreading. I think she's one of the best sideline reports for ESPN and hopefully she beats this horrible disease.
ESPN reporter Holly Rowe says her cancer has returned

Holly is fantastic and I've heard numerous people say she is one of the nicest people in the business. She covers the Big 12 a lot and the local sports radio hosts here in KC just rave about her. Hopefully she beats it.
