National-Graham-Cracker-Day-July-5.jpg

Welcome to National Graham Cracker Day!

National Graham Cracker Day is observed annually on July 5th. The graham cracker was originally invented as a “health food” as part of the “Graham Diet”. Developed by Presbyterian minister, Sylvester Graham in the early 1800s, graham crackers were originally made from whole-wheat graham flour with added bran and wheat germs. The minister believed this snack would curb a variety of sinful cravings.

Modern graham crackers are made with bleached white flour and come in a variety of flavors including honey, cinnamon and chocolate. While a delicious snack on their own, they are also terrific ingredients for desserts. Crushed graham crackers blended with butter and pressed into pie tins or springform pans make excellent crusts when lightly toasted. One of the most popular treats made with graham crackers is the S’more.

Rakeem Christmas leaves with injury during NBA Summer League appearance (PS; Carlson)

Injuries continue to hamper Rakeem Christmas' ability to make an impression during a potentially critical NBA Summer League session with the Indiana Pacers.

Christmas left Tuesday's NBA Summer League game against Dallas with a sprained ankle after playing just seven minutes. He also missed Indiana's first two Summer League games due to a sprained ankle, limiting him to just one full game through four days of competition.

Christmas started for Indiana at center and fared well during his time, making two of his three shots and grabbing a pair of rebounds. The Pacers were plus-3 during his playing time but wound up losing to Dallas 94-79. Center Jarnell Stokes led Indiana with 15 points while filling in for Christmas.

Injury Update: Rakeem Christmas (left ankle sprain) will not return for the second half.

The 6-foot-9 Christmas showed flashes of potential last year and played a career-high 29 games but he also didn't make the Pacers' playoff rotation and the team is now loaded with post options.

Check Out This Dennis Smith Story (dukebasketballreport.com; King)

It’s remarkable that Dennis Smith got through NC State and the ACC media without a story like this being written about him.

Or maybe he did. We never saw it if so and it was never really discussed that we’re aware of.

It talks about his family and how he was raised by his father after his mother, for whatever reason (no one wants to talk about it) left the family.

For convenience, we tend to drop Juniors here. Everyone knows who Smith is, or Wendell Carter or Gary Trent, for that matter. But in his case, Smith makes sure that everyone calls him Junior because of the debt he owes his father.

The best character here though is his grandmother. She’s a real pistol.

A life-long Redskins fan, she wasn’t very happy when Smith said he’d start pulling for the Dallas Cowboys and expressed herself accordingly.

She’s a blast. Dallas owner Mark Cuban should figure out a way to incorporate her into the team. Even from this far out she’s an obvious asset.

All in all, this is a really great piece about a player who, despite his talent, managed to remain fairly unknown during his time at State.
