Welcome to National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day!

National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, also referred to as Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day or Pearl Harbor Day, is observed annually in the United States on December 7, to remember and honor the 2,403 citizens of the United States who were killed in the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 7, 1941.

On August 23, 1994, the United States Congress, by Pub.L. 103–308, designated December 7 of each year as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.[1] On Pearl Harbor Day, the American flag should be flown at half-staff until sunset to honor those who died as a result of the attack on U.S. Military and naval forces in Hawaii.[2]

Pearl Harbor Day is not a federal holiday – government offices, schools, and businesses do not close. Some organizations may hold special events in memory of those killed or injured at Pearl Harbor.[2]

UConn Men: Five Takeaways From The Loss To Syracuse (courant.com; Amore)

The setting, the crowd and the opponent brought back memories of better, more exciting days for UConn men’s basketball.

And then came reality — the ultimate buzzkill.

“We had a great rivalry,” Jim Boeheim said after Syracuse’s 72-63 win over UConn at a packed Madison Square Garden. “We played great games, great memories. But when you’re in a league, you’re in league and that’s what’s important.”

Boeheim was re-making a point he made when the Huskies and Orange last met as Big East rivals, at the XL Center in February 2013. They could continue playing each other, he said then, but it would not be the same. Left un-made was the larger point – UConn and Syracuse are in different leagues now, in more ways than one. You see Tyus Battle (22 points), a player UConn recruited early and hard, is starring at Syracuse and you know what it means.

Syracuse Basketball: Matthew Moyer finally erupts at Madison Square Garden (itlh.com; Esden Jr)

Finally Syracuse basketball got what it was looking for from Matthew Moyer. ITLH breaks down his epic performance at Madison Square Garden.

Just when Syracuse basketball fans started to think that perhaps Matthew Moyerwas all hype, he exploded.

Which was a pleasant surprise for a SU outfit that surprisingly lost what was supposed to be another important piece to the puzzle in Geno Thorpe.

Remember earlier this offseason the Orange also lost promising sophomore Taurean Thompson. Which resulted in a lot of speculation around who could possibly fill the offensive void on the team.

NBA hopeful Tyus Battle was expected to drop a 20 burger a night all year long, but not much was expected from the rest of the bunch.

ACC Roundup - Georgia Tech Stumbles Again (dukebasketballreport.com; King)

In Wednesday’s ACC action, UNC had no trouble with Western Carolina (duh) winning 104-61, Virginia Tech thumped neighbor Radford 95-69, Louisville got by Siena 86-80, FSU smacked Loyola 96-71 and Georgia Tech swirled further down the drain, losing a buzzer beater to Wofford, 63-60.

Well it’s better than tipping a ball in your opponent’s basket for the winning shot.

Still, losing to Wofford? And who schedules a road game at Wofford anyway? That’s just foolish. Ask for trouble and you’re like to find it.

Fletcher McGee lit Tech up for 36 points including 8-14 from three point range.

Even worse perhaps, Tech was up 10 late and couldn’t hold the lead. Magee - naturally - hit the deciding three with 1.7 left.

No. 2 Kansas handed first defeat of season by Washington (usatoday.com; Skretta; AP)

Matisse Thybulle hit five 3-pointers and scored 19 points, Jaylen Nowell added 15 and Washington led most of the way in upsetting second-ranked Kansas 74-65 on Wednesday night.

Noah Dickerson added 13 points and 14 rebounds for the Huskies (7-2), who knocked the Jayhawks (7-1) from the ranks of the unbeaten with their first victory over them since December 1974.

Box score: Washington 74, No. 2 Kansas 65

Lagerald Vick had a career-high 28 points for Kansas, doing almost all his damage in the middle of the Huskies’ 2-3 zone. But he didn’t get a whole lot of help as the Jayhawks went 5 for 20 from the 3-point arc, lowlighted by lousy performances from sharpshooters Devonte Graham and Svi Mykhailiuk.

Graham, coming off back-to-back 35-point outbursts, was held to three points on 1-for-8 shooting, while Mykhailiuk was 3 for 12 from the field and scored eight points before fouling out.

CNY Food & Beverage Trail: Farm-to-glass and farm-to-table in Madison County (PS; Cazentre)

The newest of Upstate New York's many food and/or beverage trails is now running in Madison County: It's theCentral New York Food & Beverage Trail.

As the name implies, this one covers both beverages and dining options. Many of the state's original trails were built more specifically, focusing on wine or beer, for example. Such trails highlight similar businesses in specific areas, and offer discounts and specials to visitors.

Onondaga County's first 'adult beverage trail' ready for launch

People who visit the participating businesses can get their 'passport' stamped for prizes, discounts etc.

This one showcases a mostly rural county just east of Syracuse, a place that has a surprisingly large number of fine dining restaurants, breweries, distilleries, specialty food producers and retailers and more.
