NATIONAL-CLERIHEW-DAY-%E2%80%93-July-10-1024x512.png

Welcome to Clerihew Day!

Edmund Clerihew Bentley, commonly known as E.C. Bentley, was born on today's date in 1875. He was a British writer known for clerihews: four-line biographical poems of a comedic nature and an AABB rhyme scheme. The subject of the poem is usually named in the first line, and other characteristics of the poem are its clumsy rhythm and irregular number of accents.

Bentley came up with his first clerihew at the age of 16, while in a science class. It was about a chemist named Sir Humphry Davy and was later published in 1905 in Biography for Beginners. The clerihew is as follows:

Sir Humphry Davy
Abominated gravy.
He lived in the odium
Of having discovered sodium.

https://sujuiceonline.com/2019/07/10/plenty-for-everyone-to-learn-about-syracuse-basketball-on-its-italy-trip/ (the juice; Stechschulte)

About a month from now, the Syracuse men’s basketball team will take off on their longest road trip in many years as they set sail for a series of four games against Italian national teams.

It is a greatly needed trip, as this roster is about as young and inexperienced as you will see in Orange. Elijah Hughes is the only returning starter and Marek Dolezaj returns after two years as a sixth man and sometime starter. The rest of the roster? Well, the program’s Twitter account put out a photo of team members having some Fourth of July frivolity and there were a lot of unfamiliar faces in the pool.
The team gets ten extra practices this summer to get their act together as a result of going on the tour and Jim Boeheim has said every player will play in every game.
The head coach also said much of the practice time will also be spent on offense and not as much spent on the nuances of the 2-3 zone defense. Perhaps most notable of all was the coach mentioning the team will play some man-to-man defense on the trip, as well.

The comments about defense make some sense when taking into consideration the inexperience on the roster and Boeheim’s commitment to using everyone on it during the trip. Dolezaj has played close to 1,800 minutes for the Orange and Hughes logged just over 1,100 minutes last season.

After that, Bourama Sidibe is the most experienced player in the 2-3 with 666 minutes and it goes down from there. With the sheer number of guys who have never suited up for a game at SU on the current roster, rushing to get the zone game ready seems like a fool’s errand, particularly since these games don’t officially count.

Jake Presutti Promoted To Assistant Coach - Marquette University Athletics (gomarquette.com)

Marquette head men's basketball coach Steve Wojciechowski announced a pair of promotions on Tuesday afternoon, naming Jake Presutti assistant coach and Dan Madhavapallil director of basketball operations.

"Jake has been an incredible worker and passionate member of our program since the beginning," Wojciechowski said. "He's starred in his role and earned the opportunity to be an assistant coach. He has a great connection with our players, is a tireless worker and brings an incredible amount of basketball knowledge to our program."

A member of the Marquette staff since the 2014-15 campaign, Presutti was promoted to director of basketball operations & video coordinator in May of 2017. Presutti had previously served as special assistant for the USA Basketball Men's National Team. His work with USA Basketball included film evaluation and statistical analysis of the player pools for both the USA Men's National Team and the USA Select Team.

Presutti spent two seasons (2011-13) at Eastern Michigan University, where he served under former Syracuse assistant coach Rob Murphy as the Director of Player Development. With the Eagles, he was responsible for film exchange, video edits and complete scouting reports for each opponent.

Presutti joined the EMU program after working with the NBA's Houston Rockets as an assistant in basketball operations. His duties for the Rockets included video breakdown, as well as reports on all college and international draft eligible prospects and NBA trade targets.

Presutti, a native of Belmont, N.Y., was originally a walk-on at Syracuse before earning a scholarship. He completed his bachelor's degree in child and family studies in 2008.

Madhavapallil is entering his seventh season with the program and has served as student manager, program assistant and assistant video coordinator prior to his most recent promotion.

Head coach Jim Christian announced the addition of Briana Brown and Joseph Carty to the Boston College men's basketball staff. Brown is the program's new player personnel specialist and staff assistant, while Carty becomes the team's new graduate manager.

"We are excited to welcome Briana and Joe to the BC men's basketball family. They are two outstanding individuals who I know will do a great job for us in two very important roles," said Christian.

Brown comes to Heights after spending the previous two seasons as the coordinator of women's basketball operations at Sacred Heart. In this role, she managed all aspects of the Pioneers' team travel operations, coordinated the team's community outreach program, and served as director of the Sacred Heart Girl's Basketball Camp.

Prior to that, she spent two seasons at St. John's, serving as the assistant director of operations for women's basketball, while also working as an academic tutor in the office of academic support at her alma mater.

A four-year women's basketball student-athlete from 2010-14, she earned her bachelor's degree in childhood education from St. John's in 2015. A two-time team captain, the Red Storm appeared in the NCAA Tournament in each of Brown's four seasons of competition, including a run to the Sweet Sixteen in 2012. Off the hardwood, she was a Peer Mentor and inducted into the President's Society - the most prestigious honor society at St. John's. A member of the School of Education's Dean's List from 2012-14, Brown was also a three-time Big East All-Academic honoree.

Anything But Beer finds new downtown Syracuse spot for brewery tap room (PS; Cazentre)

Anything But Beer, the quirky Syracuse brewery that makes beverages that aren’t exactly beer, is opening its first tap room/restaurant later this summer in downtown Syracuse.
But it’s not in the space ABB announced for the tap room earlier this year.

Anything But Beer will now move into the space at 201-203 S. Salina St., which most recently housed another brewery, Sahm Brewing Co. That spot was also once the second home of Clark’s Ale House among other past dining and drinking businesses.

In March, Anything But Beer had announced its downtown tap room would be located at 250-252 E. Water St. next to JJ’s Miss Syracuse Diner and across from the former JRyans/Talisman Tap Room. Those plans fell through, ABB partner Brittany Berry said.
The new space, which is expected to open by late August or early September, will include a bar and a kitchen, serving a grain-free menu with gluten-free, vegan and paleo food options. An expanded dining room should open later in the fall.
As with the Water Street plan, ABB will at first keep its brewhouse (production facility) at 1153 W. Fayette St., where it opened for business in February 2018. The brewhouse could move downtown at a later date, Berry said.
