Welcome to Women's Equality Day!

Women's Equality Day is celebrated in the United States on August 26 to commemorate the 1920 adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which prohibits the states and the federal government from denying the right to vote to citizens of the United States on the basis of sex.

Syracuse basketball: Which players came to SU from each NY section? (PS; Waters)

Joe Girard is the first player to come out of the New York State Public High School Athletics Association’s Section II in nearly 20 years.

Girard, a 6-1 guard, played at Glens Falls High School, which is part of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s Section II.
The Glens Falls native will join Buddy Boeheim and Elijah Hughes, both of whom also played at schools within the NYSPHSAA’s umbrella, on Syracuse’s roster this season. Jalen Carey, another native New Yorker, attended Immaculate Conception High School, which is located in New Jersey.

With Girard, Boeheim and Hughes all on this year’s roster, let’s look back to see the Syracuse players that came out of each of the New York sections over the past 35 years.

Section I
The NYSPHSAA’s Section I covers Dutchess, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties along the Hudson River just north of New York City.

Since 1985, just four players have come out of that area to play basketball at Syracuse University. The most recent one is on Syracuse’s current roster.

Starling also attended SU’s Elite Camp a year ago.

NYS Fair 2019: Our guide to great food, interesting drinks and fun things to do (PS; Staff)
The 7 spiciest NYS Fair Foods: Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Fries and more ranked The spiciest NYS Fair Foods: Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Fries, more
— syracuse.com (@syracusedotcom) August 22, 2019

We sent more than 40 reporters and editors to the New York State Fair on opening day to search out the best food, drinks and entertainment on the fairgrounds.
They were told to find new stuff, oddball stuff and fun stuff. The mission was to find things that even veteran fairgoers would find new and interesting.

And find stuff they did.

Like the the gluten-free buckeye brownie from an Erieville, NY, baker which had a perfect balance of brownie, peanut butter and chocolate. Or the “Cake N Bacon” -- a frozen cheesecake, dipped in chocolate and covered in warm bacon bits -- all on a stick.

One of our staffers brought a scale along on his search to find the biggest portions at the lowest prices -- measuring how many cents per ounce customers shell out for their food.
It was a lot of fun -- and informative.
Here’s a guide to what we discovered:
