On August 10th, National Lazy Day gives us permission to relax and kickback. So, we’re going to be a bit lazy here.

As you can see, there is not much information regarding this annually celebrated holiday as we do not feel like doing any research. Actually, we do not feel like doing anything at all. Consequently, we are in our hammocks with a couple of good books and glasses of lemonade and iced tea. Yes, it is a Lazy Day. We choose to be lazy rather than tell much more about this day.

"You can’t teach people to be lazy – they either have it, or they don’t". ~ Dagwood Bumstead

Former SU basketball manager's new business helps players sell their gear (PS; Waters)

Sports fans love wearing their favorite team’s sweatshirts, t-shirts, shorts and hats.

But some sports gear just isn’t available to the general public.

The team-issued gear that colleges provide to athletes, which often includes a player’s number, isn’t sold in stores or on websites that have deals with the NCAA.

Like the Syracuse throwback shorts that Elijah Hughes wore in a game last season. Or the shooting sleeve that Hughes had on when he hit a three-quarters court shot against Duke in 2019.

On the flip-side, once their college careers are over, players have collected enough hoodies and sweatpants to outfit an entire roster. They have too much stuff, but no efficient way to get rid of it.

A former Syracuse basketball team manager and his brother, Austin, who is a manager at the University of Michigan, have created a business to help former college players sell their unwanted gear to fans who are eager to buy.

It’s called The Players Trunk and it’s essentially an on-line consignment shop for former college athletes.

Carmelo Anthony moves to 15th place on NBA all-time scoring list (247sports.com; McAllister)

Former Syracuse basketball star Carmelo Anthony achieved another career milestone on Sunday as he moved into 15th place on the NBA's all-time scoring list. He passed Paul Pierce in the process, and is closing in on several other players ahead of him on the list. He is less than 200 points from 14th place, where Tim Duncan currently resides, and is less than 1,000 points from cracking the top 10.

Anthony moved up on the all-time scoring list with a 20 point, seven rebound performance in Portland's 124-121 comeback win over the Philadelphia 76ers in a game the Trail Blazers had to have if they are going to make the playoffs. The win, combined with the Memphis Grizzlies' loss, brings Portland within one half game of those Grizzlies for the eight playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Expectations were high for Portland entering the 2019-20 season after the made the Western Conference Finals the year before. However, they started the season 5-10 and were in need of a spark. So they signed veteran Carmelo Anthony, who was still available after the rest of the league seemingly decided he had nothing left in the tank. Melo has responded by averaging 15.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game while shooting 42.7% from the floor overall and 38.0% from beyond the arc. The 38.0% three point shooting would be the third best in his NBA career.

5-star CG Jalen Warley commits; FSU adds to No. 1 recruiting class in 2021 - ACCSports.com (accsports.com; Geisinger)

Jalen Warley is headed to Tallahassee.

Florida State already had the No. 2021 recruiting class in the county; however, Leonard Hamilton’s program added another substantial commitment with Warley.

A combo guard from Norristown (Pa.), the 5-star Warley rates as the No. 22 overall prospect in the class and the No. 2 combo guard. Warley’s recruitment was led by hall of fame assistant coach Stan Jones; Florida State beat out Virginia, Memphis, Oregon, Michigan and Miami.

For a good chunk of time, Virginia was considered the favorite to land Warley. The 6-foot-4, 175-pound Warley instead opted to play for another ACC basketball power.

Warley becomes the fifth commit in Florida State’s 2021 class; two weeks ago, Florida State landed commitments from 7-foot-1 4-star center John Butler and 7-foot-3 JUCO center Naheem McLeod, initially a part of FSU’s 2019 class.

Earlier in July, 5-star 2021 Matthew Cleveland also pledged to FSU — a major get for the program. All four of these guys join Bryce McGowens, a 4-star 2021 wing that committed to FSU over Clemson in February.

Warley is from the same town and plays for the same prep program (Westtown School) as former Duke one-and-done star and current Atlanta Hawk Cam Reddish.

2021 F Bryce Hopkins De-Commits From Louisville Men’s Basketball (cardinalssportszone.com)

Louisville Men’s Basketball lost the most highly touted commit of its 2021 class this afternoon. 4 Star F Bryce Hopkins chose to de-commit from the Cards, as first reported by 247sports Brian Snow.

Here is more on Bryce Hopkins re-opening his recruitment. Hopkins is a top 40 talent Bryce Hopkins decides to re-open his recruitment

— Brian Snow (@BSnow247) August 9, 2020

The Chicago product was the first commit of the 2021 class for Louisville. He had committed back in November of 2019, choosing UofL over Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

Now, he’s back on the market and I’m sure the list of suitors will be long for the athletic and versatile player. When he spoke with Snow about why he de-committed, he made no bones about the fact the NCAA issue that has plagued Louisville for the better part of two years played into his decision. With the uncertainty of what sanctions could be levied and how long the process could be, it’s not shocking Hopkins chose to reopen his recruitment.

UofL’s 2021 class is not wrecked, however. They still have a 3-man class headlined by the number 1 JUCO player in the country El Ellis. Joining him are fast rising high school seniors G Bobby Pettiford Jr and 6’9 F Eric Van Der Heidjen. Even with the loss of Hopkins, Louisville’s class ranks 10th nationally and 2nd in the ACC according to 247sports. It’s quite remarkable the job the staff has done recruiting considering how the deck is truly stacked against them.

Brey excited to get Notre Dame Men’s Basketball back on campus (wndu.com; Smedley)

The Notre Dame Men’s Basketball team is back on campus with classes scheduled to start tomorrow.

Notre Dame Men’s Basketball head coach Mike Brey admits he was frustrated his players couldn’t be in South Bend this summer to work out due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, he is fired up to have his team back in the Bend even though practices will look a lot different than normal.

“Coaches and players will be in masks,” Brey said. “I think our players are going to have an adjustment period of breathing, playing and talking to each other through the masks. We’ll be like one or two man workouts eventually three-on-three and then maybe by Labor Day we are five-on-five. Our schedule still remains intact at this point. We open up with Army on Veteran’s Day in Purcell Pavilion. I am praying to the lady on the dome that we get to do that.”

There are just a little more than 90 days away from the season opener for the Fighting Irish against Army.

Syracuse University quarantine: 23 hours in a dorm with no AC, card games with your ‘family unit’ (PS; $; Carlson)

Juan Rivera and Payton Dunn have begun their college careers at Syracuse University by spending their first two weeks in quarantine.

They spend 23 hours a day inside. There is no air conditioning. They are allowed to interact with a group of only 15 to 20 people. With their one hour of time outdoors, they are checked in and out of the dorm and given strict instructions on the path they’re allowed to walk. Food is delivered to a common room each day in brown paper bags and delivery options are forbidden.

About 3,000 Syracuse students from 34 different states are subject to Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s quarantine orders. Those orders require individuals coming to New York to live apart from other people for 14 days to avoid any chance they pass on the virus.

Most Syracuse students are doing their quarantine off campus but about 420 are doing it in dorm rooms, an experience that is costing some SU freshmen $1,000.

The most important thing, both say, is that they might be in isolation but they are not actually alone.
The school has split arriving students into “family units” that include students living on three floors in each residence.

“It’s weird to be only allowed outside an hour a day, and we can’t have food delivered, but at least we can interact with the...

I guess the 24 7 article is correct when they say that Carmelo is less than 200 points from tying Tim Duncan for 14th place On the all-time scoring list. He is actually 85 POINTS from tying Duncan.
