Welcome to International Retainer Day!

Have you ever heard of International Retainer Day which falls on July 19 every year? This day challenges you to commit to your beautiful smile by keeping your retainer on after dental treatment. International Retainer Day recognizes the value of retainers, which help users to maintain a straight and beautiful smile years after undergoing orthodontic treatments.

In the early 1900s, retainers were introduced to prevent teeth from slipping sideways. The smile remained straight as a result of this. If you don’t use your retainer following orthodontic treatment, your teeth may shift or revert to their prior incorrect positions. So, if you’ve been slacking on your retainer, now is the time to get back on track.

Syracuse Basketball: Son of Carmelo Anthony earns strong analyst praise (itlh; Adler)

Syracuse basketball legend Carmelo Anthony, who led the Orange to its only national title in 2003 during his only season on the Hill, has a son who played his freshman year of high school in the most recent campaign.

By the way, considering that I graduated from Syracuse University a couple of years before Anthony came to Central New York, and he now has a son in high school, this makes me feel quite old.

Kiyan Anthony 6’3 Christ The King 2025 had a very good showing this weekend at the varsity level.
High IQ player, head up, probing the court and making solid decisions. Definitely loving his willingness to rebound. @kiyananthony @ctkroyals @ctkcoachjarbs @overtime pic.twitter.com/fu3V82DTj5
— RealScoutBasketball (@RealScoutBBall) June 28, 2022

All kidding aside, Melo’s son, Kiyan Anthony, is a 6-foot-3 shooting guard in the 2025 class. Anthony will be a sophomore this coming season at the famed Christ the King Regional High School in Middle Village, N.Y.

On the AAU circuit, Anthony suits up for the Baltimore-based Team Melo in Nike’s EYBL league. This is logical, considering that Team Melo is his father’s AAU program.

Former Syracuse basketball star Carmelo Anthony has a son whose own recruitment is just getting underway.

As a member of the 2025 cycle, Kiyan Anthony’s recruiting process has a long, long way to go. Recruiting services have yet to put out national rankings for this class, but I’d bet that Anthony will evolve into a four-star or a five-star prospect in this cycle.

According to recruiting services, he holds really early offers from George Mason and Bryant. Might the Orange offer a scholarship to Anthony down the line? That remains to be seen.

Nike’s EYBL league recently held its latest round of games at the Hy-Vee Arena in Kansas City, Mo.

I only saw two box scores on the EYBL Web site as it pertains to Team Melo match-ups in Anthony’s division, but here are his statistics:

Game 1: 12 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal
Game 2: 5 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist

In his first game, by the way, Anthony connected on 5-of-11 attempts from the field.

Eric Bossi, the national basketball director for 247Sports, discussed Anthony a bit in a recent article stemming from that latest EYBL session in Kansas City.

Bossi wrote in part, “A rangy 6-foot-3 shooting guard, Anthony has a nice looking jumper and not surprisingly looks to have picked up some of his father’s moves on the wing.” Yes, please.
In a fun development, I came across a tweet at the end of June from high-school hoops analyst and scout Samad Hines. He reported that, on Saturday, January 21, Anthony and Christ the King plan to square off against the Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth, Calif.

NEWS: Christ the King (NY) and Sierra Canyon (CA) are expected to play at Sierra Canyon High School on Saturday January 21st — a LeBron James requested matchup.
Two top-30 worthy programs meeting during the 2022-2023 high school season — another key matchup to keep tabs on.

Reid Ducharme Goes Off For 42 Points in BABC's Peach Jam Win (SI; McAllister)

Syracuse basketball recruiting target Reid Ducharme, a talented 6-6 shooting guard in the 2023 class, scored 42 points on 15-25 shooting including 6-11 from three point range and 6-7 from the free throw line in 32 minutes of BABC's 88-60 win over Vegas Elite at Peach Jam on Monday. Ducharme also added three rebounds, one assist and two steals.

The 42 points also included two buzzer beating threes at the ends of the first and third quarters, according to reports, and represents the most points scored in an EYBL game this AAU season. You can watch some clips of the outing below.

The performance comes one day after going 0-9 from the floor including 0-4 from beyond the arc in BABC's loss to Team Herro. It was quite the bounce back on Monday for the sharp shooting guard.

Ducharme took official visits to Penn State, Syracuse and Xavier in June. He is looking to make a final decision prior to the start of his senior season at Brewster Academy.

"I was able to workout with the players," Ducharme said after his Syracuse visit. "I did that both days. I had meetings with academic advisors. I looked at the Faulk school, that was pretty interesting. They have an NIL class that they just started, so I like that. Had meetings with coach. We went to coach Boeheim's house for a barbecue with the pool and lawn games and the players. That was fun."

Syracuse Basketball: New target, fast-rising wing, would like to visit ‘Cuse (itlh; Adler)

Syracuse basketball recently made another offer in the talent-rich 2024 recruiting class, pledging a scholarship offer to underrated yet fast-rising wing Tyler Betsey.

Dating back to last August, when the Orange made its first offer in the rising-junior class to five-star big man Donnie Freeman from Washington, D.C., by my count the ‘Cuse has now offered at least nine high-school prospects in the 2024 cycle, if you include the 6-foot-8 Betsey.

Some of these recruiting targets for the Orange in 2024 are five-star, top-25 players. Others, such as Betsey, have been flying more under the radar on a national scale.

Blessed to Receive an offer from Syracuse University ! pic.twitter.com/Fsx0fxsUUZ
— Tyler Betsey (@TylerBetsey1) July 9, 2022

But from my perspective, Betsey is likely to enter the national rankings in his class at some point in the future. He’s played quite well on the AAU circuit in recent months, including at the most recent stop for Nike’s EYBL league in Kansas City, Mo.

New target Tyler Betsey is excited by his offer from Syracuse basketball.

Betsey runs in grassroots basketball with the New York City-based NY Renaissance, and he earned a ton of high praise from analysts and scouts for his recent performances in Kansas City.

— RealScoutBasketball (@RealScoutBBall) July 10, 2022

He had a stellar sophomore season for Windsor High School in Windsor, Conn., and plans to transfer to the St. Thomas More School in Oakdale, Conn., for the upcoming 2022-23 stanza.

As college coaches have been able to directly communicate with 2024 prospects since mid-June, Betsey has seen his recruitment heat up.

Including Syracuse basketball, his list of offers is approaching 20. Those who have offered him include Virginia Tech, Iowa, TCU, Penn State, Seton Hall, Creighton, St. John’s, Rhode Island, Iona, St. Bonaventure, Nebraska, Brown, George Washington, Manhattan, Fairfield, Central Connecticut State and Sacred Heart, per recruiting services.

Syracuse Basketball: City Rocks guard ‘the new national name,’ per expert (itlh; Adler)

Throughout the spring and extending into the summer, physical and underrated 2024 guard Kayvaun Mulready has performed at a stellar level, and I’d really love to see Syracuse basketball extend him a scholarship offer.

We’ve written a handful of times in the past about the 6-foot-4 Mulready, who reportedly has received some level of interest from the Orange coaching staff at one time or another.

Mulready, for my money, is a four-star, top-100 prospect in the rising-junior class, despite a lack of national rankings at this juncture from the primary recruiting services.

He suits up for the Albany City Rocks in Nike’s EYBL league and is a rising junior at the Worcester Academy in Worcester, Mass.

Amid a recent NCAA live period on the AAU circuit, Mulready put forth some monster EYBL games in Kansas City, Mo., in front of college coaches, earning him a bunch of praise from national analysts and scouts.

Syracuse basketball, I hope, will end up offering 2024 guard Kayvaun Mulready.

According to theseasonticket.com and the EYBL Web site, Mulready had some big outputs during the latest stop in Kansas City. Among them:

Game 1: 26 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists
Game 2: 6 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals
Game 3: 15 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists

To date, Mulready has picked up offers from teams including Boston College, Wake Forest, Providence, Nebraska, Georgia Tech, Iona, St. Bonaventure, Northwestern, Bryant, UMass, Fairfield and Siena, per recruiting services and media reports.

Pro Insight director of scouting Andrew Slater had tweeted out last November that Syracuse basketball had interest in Mulready.

People ask Christmas the same question. It’s inevitable as the son-in-law of a superstar (PS; $; Ditota)

For Rakeem Christmas, it’s become inevitable, almost routine.

He signs with a professional basketball team abroad and immediately, the questions begin.

“They’re like, ‘Is he coming here to watch?’ They always ask how our relationship is.”

The “he,” of course, is Michael Jordan. Christmas is married to Jordan’s daughter, Jasmine. The couple, who met at Syracuse University, has a toddler son named Rakeem.

Christmas tells basically the same story when confronted with questions about his father-in-law. Michael Jordan, he tells people, is a “regular person,” more or less. Christmas uses air quotes when he describes Jordan that way.

“When I see him, we talk, we watch games,” Christmas said. “I need to learn how to golf at one point. He loves to golf. I’ve learned that golf is what you need to learn to do because that’s what people do in retirement. So I’m gonna learn eventually.”

Right now, Christmas is decidedly unretired.

He will play for Boeheim’s Army this summer. General manager Kevin Belbey, after years of pleading with Christmas to join Syracuse’s The Basketball Tournament franchise, finally got his man.

Christmas said he’d signed up to play last summer, but a foot injury derailed those plans. Two years ago, he caught Covid-19 on the eve of TBT. In previous summers, other basketball commitments intruded.

“I’ve been busy,” Christmas said. “But I’m just happy to be here. I’m happy to be back with the guys and just try to come out here and have fun. Saw the fans at the (Syracuse Mets) baseball game (Sunday). It’s always love when you come back to Syracuse.”

At long last, an actual Boeheim will play for Boeheim’s Army (PS; Ditota)

An actual Boeheim will wear a Boeheim’s Army jersey this summer.

Jimmy Boeheim will play for The Basketball Tournament team that bears his name, the team will announce today. The eldest of the Boeheim brothers, newly freed from the NBA Summer League and his stint with the Detroit Pistons, is the latest addition to Boeheim’s Army.

Jimmy Boeheim will become the 11th rostered player for the team named after his dad, longtime Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim. Last summer, the Boeheims sat courtside in Dayton as Boeheim’s Army won its first TBT championship on its seventh attempt.

GM Kevin Belbey and chairman Adam Weitsman had talked during the late spring and early summer about the possibility of adding Jimmy Boeheim. His availability depended upon what happened after the NBA Draft and Summer League.

Keeping Up With ‘Cuse: NBA Summer League Edition (TNIAAM; McCaulsky)

NBA Summer League has concluded so let’s recap the performances of the three Syracuse Orange alums who participated.

Cole Swider

Although it’s just Summer League, the Los Angeles Lakers might’ve found themselves another hidden gem in Cole Swider. The 6’9” stretch big didn’t hear his name called on June 22nd but was signed to a two-way contract. From the California Classic all the way to the last game in Las Vegas, Swider had some encouraging performances. Swider wrapped up Summer league scoring a team high 16 points on 6-9 shooting (4-6 from three point range) in the 95-84 Lakers’ win over the Dallas Mavericks.

The former Syracuse forward averaged 13.9 points and 4.0 rebounds while also shooting 52 percent from the field and from three point range respectively (28 makes out of 53 three point attempts). If Swider carries this performance from Summer League to the preseason, he could find himself on a guaranteed contract.

Both Boeheim brothers scored just 5 points each in the Pistons’ 102-86 win against the Orlando Magic. Buddy added five rebounds and two assists during Detroit’s final game in Las Vegas while Jimmy chipped in with one rebound and two assists.

For Buddy Boeheim, the highlight of his summer league experience was his 18 point performance in which he shot 6-8 from the field against the Indiana Pacers. In 5 games, Buddy averaged 7.0 points per game while shooting just 31 percent from three point range in 19 minutes per game. As of right now, he is signed to a two-way contract with the Detroit Pistons but will have to prove himself all over again during training camp and preseason if he wants to keep his two-way contract or even earn a guaranteed contract.

NY State Fair tickets go on sale Wednesday (PS; Miller)

Tickets and parking passes for the 2022 New York State Fair go on sale at 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Tickets will cost $3 and parking is $5, the same as it was last year. Tickets can only be bought through the Fair’s exclusive online ticket seller, Etix.

Admission remains free of charge to people ages 65 years old and up, and children 12 and under.

“As part of our commitment to making sure that the Fair is as accessible as possible to all New Yorkers, our team felt strongly that keeping admission across the board at $3 was the right thing to do — especially as we continue to re-emerge from the pandemic,” interim Fair Director Sean Hennessey said in a press release.

Tickets will only be sold online in advance and during the Fair, which runs Aug. 24 through Sept. 5. You can buy tickets by clicking on this web address starting Wednesday.

You can also order tickets over the phone at (800) 514-3849. You can buy tickets in-person during the Fair at all gates through electronic kiosks, but there will be no cash sales at the entrance gates or in parking lots.

You can purchase parking for $5 in advance. When arriving at the Fair, drivers may show their ticket to parking attendants electronically on their phones, or through a printed copy. In the Orange and Brown lots, parking may also be paid for using EZPass Plus, a free add-on to EZPass, which allows users to pay for parking in addition to highway tolls.
