Welcome to National Day of Forgiveness!

Forgiveness is a process, not an act, and it teaches the forgiver about themselves as well as about those being forgiven. It can set them on a path to healing from mental or emotional pain, trauma, and grief. It relieves stress—from anger, resentment, and bitterness—and gives permission to heal and to stop living in the past, so the future can be looked to instead. It provides physical health benefits too, since less anxiety and stress transfers to lower blood pressure, a stronger heart, an improved immune system, and even possibly the reduction of physical pain. National Day of Forgiveness provides the opportunity to understand the benefits that forgiveness provides, and it encourages developing ways to incorporate forgiveness into one's life.

McNamara at 40: SU basketball icon built a life here. What would lead him to leave? (PS; Ditota)

A few days after Gerry McNamara and his wife watched Syracuse survive an epic six-overtime thriller and win the 2009 Big East tournament, McNamara drove from his Scranton hometown to Syracuse to watch the Orange prepare for the NCAA Tournament.

Before practice, Jim Boeheim approached the guard who helped deliver the SU coach his only national championship.

By then, McNamara had made stops in basketball outposts in the D League and in Europe, none of which, his wife Katie said, provided her husband with much joy. Newly married and eager to start what they hoped would be a big family, the nomadic basketball life was beginning to wear on the couple.

Boeheim offered McNamara an alternative. He asked whether the most competitive player he had ever coached would consider coming back to Syracuse as a graduate assistant.

A date isn’t yet set, but 2025 five-star point guard Tyler Jackson from Baltimore and 2025 four-star shooting guard Kiyan Anthony from New York City plan to visit Syracuse basketball together in the near future, Jackson told On3 national recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw.

The 6-foot-3 Jackson, who is a five-star, top-20 national prospect according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, received a scholarship offer from the Orange in late April.

He told Shaw, one of the top analysts out there, that he’s talking with Syracuse basketball, Alabama, Kansas and UCF about setting up some visits in the coming weeks.

Regarding a ‘Cuse trip, Jackson said in the On3 article, “I’m actually going to visit up there with Kiyan Anthony. We don’t have a set date yet, but we are going up there together.”

Upstate New Yorkers know, Wegmans is a way of life. And according to recent polls ranking America’s best grocery stores, store bakeries, store delis and more, everyone else knows it too.

Wegmans recently ranked on several USA Today’s 10Best lists including being named one of the best supermarkets in America. It sits alongside others on the list like Publix, Aldi, and the number one spot: The Fresh Market.

The Upstate New York based company also ranked on 10Best lists for:

  • Best grocery store bakery
  • Best grocery store deli
  • Best grocery store prepared food
Any “Wegmaniac” will tell you that Wegmans is more than just a supermarket, so it may be no surprise that the publication wrote, that the store’s devotees like the chain’s prepared foods, one-stop shopping, seasonal fare, and its charitable community outreach programs.

Journey returning to Upstate NY with Toto on 2024 tour dates (PS; Herbert)

Journey is returning to Upstate New York for another concert with Toto.

Journey announced its 2024 “Freedom” tour dates Monday, including a Feb. 22 performance at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester. Toto will open the show at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets go on sale Friday, Sept. 29, at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster.

Journey, which features Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Arnel Pineda, Jason Derlatka, Deen Castronovo and Todd Jensen, recently celebrated its 50th anniversary with a Buffalo concert in March. The rock band first formed in 1973 with former Santana guitarist-vocalist Neal Schon, the only constant original member of Journey, and rose to fame with lead singer Steve Perry on hits like “Open Arms,” “Separate Ways,” “Faithfully” and “Don’t Stop Believin’.”

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group got its name from John Villanueva, a Camillus resident who was a drum technician for Santana at Woodstock. Villaneuva, who died in 2021, was a longtime roadie who suggested the name “Space Journey” for the band that eventually became Journey.
